Hello, I'm wondering if anyone can help me to positively identify this Plumb Hatchet and possibly the time of production? We came across this small hatchet and I believe it could be a Plumb Barrel Hatchet from around shortly before 1920. It seems to match an old catalogue image of a Barrel Hatchet I found online and has the Plumb logo in a square box with sharp edges, not round, still visible. It looks like the original Plumb stamp from around this time frame, and in 1920 the stamp was changed to Genuine Plumb. The handle is original and Im wondering if this is the "mahoginized" finish I have heard about, before they started painting handles red. There is a wedge in the eye, no take up screw, or permabond.
Blade edge 2 and 1/8" Blade length 5 and 1/2", Hammer Poll 1"X1" with 8 rows of checkerboard, weight 1lb., 2oz. total length top to bottom 12 and 1/2 "
I will add some photos. Any ideas, opinions or info is much appreciated. Thanks!

Nice, That hatchet has not been abused at all!! Congrats on finding such a beauty.
1.
There is something about the hang that does not look right (factory right). I think the handle was replaced (maybe lath hatchet replacement handle)
2.
I do not recall seeing any 1920ies barrel hatchets with chamfered pole. The shape of the hatchet head gives out post Plumb Victory period vibe: possibly 1950ies

A beautiful find! I believe a barrel hatchet would have an additional notch in the bit. And a produce hatchet would have the additional notch on top by the eye. You are on the right track for sure. There are a ton of different types. Best of luck in your search! And either way, that is a fantastic find!!

Thank you for your input! I too am wondering about the missing notch in the bit, as I cannot find an image of a Barrel Hatchet without one, and like you say the Produce Hatchet has a second notch, one on each side. I'm wondering if the bit could have been sharpened and the notch in the bit could have be filed away at some point? But I'm glad to know you think I'm on the right track Thanks!

Thank you for your input. I see what you mean about the Chamfered poll. You are referring to the angled corners, I assume? I will have to investigate that further, along with your other observations. That is a really good clue! Thanks so much.
