Well, one of the hatchets I picked up at the flea market this weekend turned out to be a Plumb Boy Scout hatchet. It and the other hatchet I bought had been sitting on a table in front of this guy's booth in the elements for who knows how long. The head was rusty and covered with some kind of crud. Soaked it in vinegar overnight, then commenced to scrubbing. The head is badly pitted. Then as I was attempting to bring the edge back, I saw the faint BSA emblem on the head. It appears to be the original haft. I identified it as the Plumb version by looking at pics on the web. Ebay has them for $40 and up! So I've got my little $5 treasure. I was initially enamored of the head because of its profile. Now I'm just a little MORE enamored! :D

sorry. trying to get photos to the computer. Camera wasn't cooperating, so had to use iphone camera.

pics are not very artistic, lol.

crap. you can't see the bsa symbol in the pics. thought they'd come out bigger.

i have no idea how much it weighs. I'm new to hatchets and axes. i mean, I've used them before but just never really paid attention to them, I guess. Was just a tool I had lying around. that is, until I found out I could get them for cheap at places like flea markets!

the symbol is there, but the pics didnt come out big enough on the site. in a large enough photo, you can see the symbol.

Trying just putting one pic up. With a larger version, you can see the BSA mark on the head.

Two of these were mine from many years ago. I added two to round out my collection. The Boy Scout Handbook is from 1960.
