Hey guys. I normally hang out in the Becker sub-forum, but today I come to you with a question. I just got this old Plumb hatchet and I'd like to know a little about them. I guess some history, a little about the steel, and anything else on interest. I paid $20 for this old thing. The Mora; that was $5. I've sharpened the head back up a bit so it has a nice edge on it again. In time it will become very sharp I'm sure, but for now I just put an initial edge back on it. I don't want to sharpen out all the dings yet; I'd like to use it for a while first. Anyway, any info or input about this old thing would be great.
Thanks guys.

Thanks for that. I had no idea that it could be that old. It still has the screw wedge in it also

Man I would love to have one of those. I'd take it on every camp out, and use it just as much as it was intended to be used by Scout troops back in its day. You, sir, have one fantastic axe right there.

Boy Scout axes were made by various manufacturers over the years, Collins, Bridgeport, Plumb, even Keen Kutter at one time. Plumb I believe had the contract for the most amount of years. Depending on the age of te axe, you will see different imprints in relation to the Plumb name, and also the boy scout logo. There were many different combinations. Sometimes you can also get the imprinted sheath as well with the boy scout logo. Also the handle, again depending on the year, will say "Official Scout Axe" or sometimes scout axe.

Plumb boy scout axes are somewhat common now, though you usually can't get them for under $20, so you got a good catch there. I have about 6 I think of the differing styles and imprint patterns. The steel and overall quality on them are usually always very good. Overall a good find.

Thanks for the info guys. I made a new sheath for it and put a new handle on it also.

Here are a couple pix for you all.
