That's a real nice find. Love that pattern. Not sure if you checked here.

When the Gurus check in I'm sure you will get more info.

Whatever you do Brad...I hope you retain the label as is. Not sure about the nail puller. Point of purchase in relation to point of contact just seems wrong to me. But in saying that I would be proud to own her. In my (humble) opinion that's the perfect shaped head for any single bit of any size.

Great find. Is that a Walnut table she is sitting on?

regards...Frank

what do you mean by point of purchase etc ?? ........an yes the table is walnut

It makes sense in a shingling or lathing hatchet, but I don't know why they put nail slots in woods hatchets. Maybe in case you want to pack in some nails to build your shelter but you don't want to carry a hammer? Maybe force of habit.

I have a couple of Plumb Boy Scout hatchets, neither of which is quite like this one. They must have made quite a range of them.

Hi Brad...Nail pulling is designed on leverage. The most effective tool will have the Haft (lever) directly inline with the claw.
EG: Claw-hammer jemmy-bar Wrecking-bar.

Is that nice colour of the haft a 'stain in varnish' or the timber.

regards...Frank.

All but one of my Plumbs have that red color on the helve- I'm sure it's a dye. Most of them also have red epoxy or something holding the head on, as advertised in the boy scout literature of my youth.

A lot of farmers use hatchets just like hammers, hence the nail puller. Comes in handy if you are taking down an old shed or fence, also when chopping up used barnwood stuff for kindling and firewood, you won't ruin the blade by hitting a nail if you pull it first.
