Has anyone seen one of these? I got mine around 1955. They were made by Plumb, had the boy scout logo stamped into the head, have nicely finished heads, and the blade was quite a bit wider than other 3/4 axes and rounded on the ends.I have used one of these for 50 years (on the second handle though) and it is still the best 3/4 axe that I have ever used. And over that long a period of trapping and messing around in the woods, I have used (and still have most of them) lots of axes, mostly 3/4 ones. The Wetterling limbing axe is roughly the same size, but for me, the blade shape of the Wetterling is not as useful overall. For my uses, the Explorer Scout axe does all that the Wetterling does and more. (Mostly I use the Wetterling and others now because I don't want to risk losing the Plumb on the trail or in the river.)

It sharpens up pretty well too. I can still recall as a 14 or 15 year old, my first "shave" was with the axe. Wanted to prove I could do it.

Needless to say, I doubt that the Boy Scouts of America any longer sell either 3/4 axes (or chain saws for that matter). :)

While mine isn't a BSA model, I found a Plumb axehead in a trashpile last year while walking my dogs one day. I'm waiting for inspiration to get me off my lazy butt to put a new handle on it.

The old Plumbs (and maybe the new ones, mine are all old) were pretty good axes. So it it worth getting out the wire brush, cleaning it up, and getting the new handle on it.

Have fun!

well .... try selling your axe on E-Bay. You might be surprised how much it will fetch. I have a Plumb hatchet and would not sell it for love nor money. I'd lke to have an old Plumb axe in spite of the fact that I got a nice new one.
PS I like a lighter axe, more speed in the swing.
