Plumb head questions

I've got a couple of Plumb 3 1/2 lbs double bit heads. I have a question about the inside of the eye on a couple of these old heads.

Inside the eye the metal from both sides of the head meet/come together. At that junction there appears to be some gaps where the metal comes together. In some other Plumb heads there appears to be some type of solder of braze that appears to have been used to fill in any gaps in this area. Has anyone ever noticed this?
