i need you fellows help/advice. here are a few pics from a nice plump i picked up awhile back. the fit and finish of this thing is incredible. and it is in great shape...
original handle and all... do you fellows think that it is a nice enough collectors piece to leave 'as is'?
my problem; should i use it or simply but up for display? if i use it i want to re-hang it with a straight handle (if i can find a nice one) and being and axe nut, i also want to polish it up 'real nice and shiny like' ;)
would this be a bad idea? or do you say "go for it"!
any advice and or comments would be greatly appriciated... thanks and enjoy the pics... some are a little 'off' due to the bright sun today...

I don't know the answer...but I will say that I am totally jealous. That is a beautiful beast. Was that off the bay a couple weeks ago??

Depends what you are into and what you currently need. The label, being the way it is, isnt really a factor in the value of the piece, due to its condition overall. If you have a hankerin for a need for it, and want to use it, then clean it up and use it. The imprint looks good and solid. Just dont be sledging with it, and you will be ok either way.

I would just go put it away somewhere for a day down the road, or a hand me down.

Nice, good looking, not beat up at all.

A couple of suggested questions to consider: How does it perform for you, compared to your other axes? Does it fill a gap in your arsenal? Is there a place on a wall somewhere that needs a classic axe displayed there (at least for a while, until you are SURE you want to make changes to it )?

these tools were meant to be used.
there is a remnant of a label/
so ...
if you need a good single bit use it
otherwise you have the option of relegating it to the wall

i'm not a great fan of wall hangers'
but what the heck
buzz

Beautiful axe. I'd wall hang that one since it's got the original handle and some of it's label left. If you need a user axe one will always be available on the Bay.

i've got plenty of axes, so i really dont 'have' to use it...
but it would be fun...
maybe i'll set this one aside and wait on a nice quality kelly perfect jersey to use. i do like the 4# head on that plump...
i almost got the red warrior a couple weeks ago, but i wasnt around when the auction ended. it wasnt a KP, but just as nice IMO... maybe better!

She's a beauty. Thanks for sharing. I'd use it but that's just me. I don't like wall hangers either. I try to use all mine at least a little.

I'd use it. It's too insulting for a nice tool to just hang on the wall. Just don't hit anything that would do serious damage and I don't think you'll harm it at all. If you're careful you can ge that original handle off in one piece if you have the right equipment and save it and put on a different handle that you won't have to worry about. Very cool axe though. Wish I had one like it :)

thanks for all the advice and help folks!
i 'bit the bullet' and was able to get the haft off/out without any damage and have the head soaking in vineger as 'we speak'. i figured 'what the hell'!
i'll clean it up real 'nice and shiny like', rehang it with the original handle and post pics then. wish me luck;)
i just couldnt stand the idea of having such a nice axe just hanging around...
