I have been looking at my Busses and was wondering, are all plunge lines rounded or are some quite straight and angular ??

I am full of questions today ??

called the shop - Mike tells me they are rounded unless they were hand ground !!

bonus !!

Some of the orig SH2's (made out of A2) had the angled, straight plunge. They may all have been hand-ground at the time. Good find!

what may i ask is a "plunge line"?

sheeeesh.... i wished the hell jerry would inform a guy when he posts a fricking roadmap of a knife up

IIRC what I have been taught at University, from a mechanical point of view (stress analysis) the plunge line should be rounded. An (rect-)angular transition would form a kerb (predetermined breaking point), possibly also causing stress induced cracking when prying with the knife.

The plunge line of the Ratweilers for example is almost perfect from this point of view, as there is no line but some sort of a soft transition between the blade and the ricasso.

However I trust Jerry on his mechanical engineering background (of some sort) and firmly believe he is well aware of these dimensioning/design basics and their use. :D

Maybe Cliff Stamp could jump in on this question, I am sure he should have a better explanation for this.

Best regards!
