Looking to upgrade the 64 mb MX440 video card that came in my 2 year old Dell 8250. Not wanting to spend more than $200, and would like to get off cheaper than that. But, I want something noticeably better than what's in the computer now. Am I asking too much? I don't think so. Do not need a 256 mb card, so let's stick to the 128 mb cards please. Thanks in advance.

This will be way, WAY faster than what you have now.

This will be significantly faster than the above, and is currently Maximum PC magazine's recommendation for a budget card. I also highly recommend newegg, they've done right by me in the past.

on any card you get, make sure your computer can run it.....some require high watt(400+) power supplies.....some require 2 slots cause their so wide...etc etc

new egg is very good and competitve

Very true. If you decide to go with the second one I posted, the Radeon 9800, I would highly recommend upgrading your power supply. That's one of the first things Dell and such will skimp on to save a few bucks, and it's one of your most important components. Since it supplies the electricity to every component in your system, any spikes or dips in that delivery put additional stress on parts that are already being pushed to their max. It just burns them out faster. I like Antec for power supplies, mine has worked great for about a year so far.

Radeon 9700 Pro. Its still holding its own with todays games and sell for cheap on e-bay. I play Call of Duty United Offensive with all the setings on max and at 1600X1200 res and it smooth as silk.

Of course you need a decent PC to run it in too. I dont know your PC specs but as a referance mine are XP2800+ on 1 Gig Crucial PC3200, ASUS A7N8X Deluxe.

since you already have a G force, you might consider the new G force cards, they are under 200 and fast, 128+ megs of ram, but unless you want to also upgrade your power supply to 450-550 watts minimum I would stay away from the 256mb cards (plus these cards tend to run $350+) or you can just install an auxilliary drinking fountain for your pleasure ;)
