I recieved a PM notification and clicked on the notification on the top right of the screen and it brought up the message fine but how do I make a reply? Something has changed, there are no reply functions anywhere for some reason. I cannot find this member's message in my inbox either. This member was responding to a for sale thread for a sharpener. Either that or I am doing something wrong. Please bear in mind I am limited in computer skills:(.

A sticky for how to use and manage the PM function would be a good idea.

There should be a Quick Reply box below the message when you go to your PMs.

Are you sure wasn't a reply to thread notification? Directly below the private message to the right is "Reply to private message". Or directly below that is the dialog box where you could then reply and then hit "submit message".

I can't find the original message anywhere and I simply went to this members profile to cut and paste their user name into a new private message. When I tried to send the message I got this...

"Doc_Holidaze has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her.

If you are trying to send this message to multiple recipients, remove Doc_Holidaze from the recipient list and send the message again."

Maybe that is the problem?

I will try clearing cookies, get some more coffee, this computer stuff has never been easy for me to grasp, I'll take the rotary dial phone over button pushing anytime.

He is a Registered User so he can't send or receive PM's.He either had a paid membership and it expired or he sent you an email through the forum.

That explains it. What I find odd is that this member's message is nowhere to be found in my PM inbox and I am sure I did not delete it, all the other older PMs are still there.

Thanks Doug. I was doing it all wrong. I hit visitor messages, then hit view conversation. Entered a reply and found the reply button and hit reply button and it seems like it went through.

I just get lucky sometimes, and lots of help from the good folk here. :)

About cookies. My browser is set so that it deletes cookies each time I close the browser and go off line. Is that good enough or should I be doing a separate way of dumping them?
