If some folks are not allowed or chose not to receive PM's, can the notification be given BEFORE one types out an entire message and attemptsto send it?

So many times I have clicked on a user name, selected the "Send PM" function, typed out a message, only to have my message disappear and the "this user either has chosen not to receive or may not be allowed to receive PM's"

It is pretty frustrating.... :grumpy:

If the person so choses, or is not allowed, then it should not be an option when clicking on their user name.

Whew, thanks for listenting.

Oh yeh, can this be changed???

Well, since there's no way to do that on our end, I'm sorry but no.

Keep something in mind; unless they are a paid member, they cannot send or receive PM's.

Maybe that'll help a bit?

I believe that the best way to ascertain if someone can and does accept PMs would be to email them, first, to ask them. It's been a year since I've joined, so I'm not too certain about this, but I believe everyone is required to submit an email address in order to complete the signing-up process.

Keep in mind, as Code3 stated, that no "Registered Users" have the ability to either send or receive PMs.

I'd suggest highlighting and copy~pasting your PMs, into a .txt or .doc file, before attempting to send them on their way, just in-case, upon trying to send a PM, it dies because the BladeForums member cannot accept or has chosen not to receive PMs. If you discover that they can't or won't take PMs, copy~paste that .txt or .doc file you've made into an email to send them, and in that way, it won't get "lost."

Members don't have to make their email address available to other members, and even if they do they don't always keep it current.

Well, then. I guess, thatmguy, that the bare-bones answer to your questions is "No."

thatmguy,

A workaround would be clicking and viewing a user's profile page (View Public Profile). If they have the send a private message option visible then they are able to receive messages.

I would suggest selecting the entire message you typed, and press "ctrl C" that will copy the message to the clipboard, so if the message is lost, you can "ctrl V" and paste it again. Or you can right click on the selected text to get copy and paste options.

That won't work.

Everyone, regardless of membership type has that in their profile, as well as in the pull down menu that appears when clicking on the user name.

Just remember; unless they are a mod, or a paid member, the PM's won't work.

It [send Private Message option] doesn't always show up when I view a user's public profile. Maybe you and thatmguy can see more information than the rest of us because you're moderators.

Ooooh. I bet you are correct. I never thought of that. :o

It shows up when I click on non-paying members, and even brings me to the PM screen.

I must be special then :D

Enclosed is a snapshot of Geothorn's public profile with no PM option. Are you guys seeing one with a PM option?
