This really is one of those knives that lives up to the massive amount of hype it's received. Over the past year or so that I've really gotten into quality production knives I've of course heard a lot of praise for this knife, but here and there I've read posts from those that, when they get one, they're underwhelmed by the action or something along those lines. I guess I'm posting this for those people, our people that are thinking of buying one.

When I received mine (used, from this forum) it was advertised as not having a free falling blade and a little stiff, and it was. I took it apart and cleaned it up and oiled it, and it was a lot better and I was happy, but still didn't quite get why people thought the compression lock and action was so great. But, the more I've carried and used it (and a lot of just sitting on the couch playing) it has turned into the best action and lockup I can imagine a knife having. It flies open with zero hand or wrist flick, and will swing all the way closed with the handle almost vertical. But the most surprising, is is doing all this with no blade play whatsoever. In the beginning it was a trade off, either free falling smooth blade with play, or solid lockup with a tighter deployment. After a little time, you really can get both, and that's awesome. I get it now. Everything that all of the believers have said about it through the years, it's totally true.

So long and boring story short, if you have just bought a pm2, and you just can't seem to get it set up right and you're wondering if you should just send it back as a lemon, or you're starting to think it's just over hyped, give it a couple weeks or so. It really is unbelievable how well this knife breaks in, and it's worth it.

Agreed!

After a few days of opening/closing it was perfect and good to go, and today, more than1,5 year later, it still is.

It was my first "real" knife, and now it is hard to find another Spyderco I really want, since I fear they don't compare to the para (want to try a Manix 2 tho'). Perfect knife, love it, the perfect bff for my Emersons:)

I agree on not really knowing where to go from here with spyderco. I've bought a Gayle Bradley 2 since and I love it as well, but now I'm like, I don't really know what else there is lol. Granted, I'm not one to spend over $180-$200 on a knife, but I think at that price point it couldn't really get much better than the pm2 and gb's. I do keep going back and looking at a few cheaper models like the delica (of course) and stretch, but I'm afraid they'll just mainly play back up and not get carried often. Oh well, it's a good position to be in!

Haha, I have it the same way, with the same models! The Bradley seems like a good knife. The same with the Delica and Stretch. It's possible I buy a serrated Delica (or Salt or Tasman) anyway, just to try a Spyderedge, but the Para is the one that the others are compared to.

Haven't tried the spyderco backlock, but I can't imagine it could stand up to the compression lock. Plus I hate bladeplay, which I hear is common with backlocks, while my Para has none. A Stretch with compression lock would have fooled me in a second.

Emersons lured me up to the 180 $-mark.. but I'm not going higher, not for a work-knife!

Got my first late 2012. I was a bit meh at first, but like you a few weeks later I had 'got it'. Absolutely marvelous user of a pocket knife in so many ways, so versatile and I found quite instinctively easy to manipulate. It's still part of the rotation.

Since then I kept buying Spyderco's, got about 20 now, as well as a dozen others mostly BM and ZT. A variety, just one of each model, except the Military of which I have 2. BTW, if you haven't tried a Millie I recommend them.

But I like the Para2 so much I have 7 now including the M4 not in the picture, all different steels, and hopefully 8 soon when the Cruwear Sprint is out. Much of the time it's a Para2 in my pocket. To me it's that good. I don't need them of course, the first S30V DLC Para2 I got would be all I need for many years. I just want them

PM2 is a great knife I've been through plenty

I'm really liking the Domino over it now

More PM2 eye-candy :)

Something about that black on black... Even though a satin/camo is my user, the above has always been my favorite variant.

Plus I hate bladeplay, which I hear is common with backlocks, while my Para has none.

FWIW Most of my Spydercos have back locks and are the ones I carry most often and none have ever had blade play. Just my experience, YMMV and all disclaimers, but I wouldn't let fear of blade play stand in the way of trying a Spydie back lock model if you like it otherwise. :)

Thank you, it's noted! I have a soft spot for classics, something the Delica certainly is, so maybe one day in the future :)

I could easily make due with the PM2 as my only folder for the rest of my life. I don't want to, but it would be more than sufficient.

That's pretty much where I'm at with it too. I could, but I don't want to. I wouldn't even call it my favorite, but it's probably "better" than my others maybe? I don't know, I just know there's something special about the pm2 that my others don't have.

Here's my original black blade with the silver screws that the black blade version originally came with. I've carried this knife everyday for 5 years and it's still as awesome as the day I bought it. Opens and drops like butter. Previously, I carried Enduras for close to two decades. Since I first bought this one I've added just about all of the PM2 variations/sprint runs to my collection along the way.

I really like that one red house. Mine is the dlc blade and camo scales. I never considered buying other versions of a knife I already own, but this one has made me rethink that. I hate that I missed the m4 variant, I'm really liking it on my gb2. I definitely see more of these in my future.

Didn't I tell you that you had a fever and there is only one prescription?
