I have a brand new, genuine, pm2.
The action is tight, even makes a little squeak sound when opening/closing. It's not overly tight, but it won't swing freely if I hold the compression lock in. I tried opening closing it 200 times to wear it in, but it didn't loosen at all. I backed the pivot pin screw out a smidge, but now my blade isn't centered.
I don't have knife experience, so tell me what I need to do to get my blade centered and my action smooth!
This is a brand new knife from National Knives. I absolutely love it, I just want it to be the smoothest it can be! Also, how do you find out the manufacture date of these knives? Is it stamped somewhere out of view?
Thanks

If it was BNIB from National Knives, the date code is on the box, it will be to the right of the barcode, represented in letters. The first letter is the month it was made and the second is the year, so for example, IN would be H=8th letter = 8th month =August, N=14th letter=2014, so HN will be August 2014. Another example, if it is DL, then D =4th letter = 4th month = April, L = 12th letter = 2012

Hope this makes sense! I'm not sure how to best remedy the pivot unfortunately, good luck with that

You can put a drop or two of lube in the pivot and on the detent ball. Cycle the knife a few times and it should smooth out. I that doesn't fix it(it should), you can disassemble the knife and wipe down all the parts and re-lubricate the pivot area.

I will lube.. What's recommended? I have 3in1.. Or CLP breakfree, or Ballistol. Any of those viable??
Also, coincidentally, my box code is in fact IN! Sweet. This knife is spankin' new.

It's supposed to be that way when it's new. I wouldn't want a knife that is all loose and such. I prefer to break them in over time. Relax, enjoy your knife and don't worry much about it.

I also have silicone grease, but that's an oring thing.
The knife looks to be bone dry around the action taking a close look from the outside, I can't spot any hint of oil..
Do I have to disassemble the knife to lube or just plop a drop down on the top opening of the action if I'm holding the knife closed, tip down..?

I used CLP on the PM2 I had. Honestly it's usually not the pivot per se that needs the lube. Sometimes it's just the detent ball that needs a drop.

It's supposed to be tight, let it break in.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm going to just give it time and let her break in. My newbness is showing!
My only experience has been YouTube vids and what people have commented on the knife so I thought it was going to be glass smooth out of box. I really love the ergonomics of this knife. It's rock solid feeling.
The StarTac I got a couple days ago is sickeningly smooth feeling.. Maybe that's where I got this impression that the PM2 felt tight or mildly gritty. I love both knives and I initially planned to sell one of them after getting the feel for them, but they both feel different and amazing in their own way so I'm keeping both!

Enjoy the new PM2. Mine isn't super flickable yet, but I can open it from the lock with a swing. Sounds like yours Is a little tighter.

Most of the resistance on mine just seems to be the detent.

I don't flip or flick knives so it's not an issue for me, but I have my pivot screws real tight and the blade, what's left of it, is loose with no blade play.
