I'd like to mod my shiny PM2 clip,,is it stainless or chrome?..I have heard many ways,,Ferric chloride, hot vinegar,,PCB etcher,,,make it hot with a torch and drop it into "something"

Don't make the blade hot with a torch if thats what you meant, that will ruin the blade. Youtube could sort you out on your question

All of those will work except the hot vinegar. The clip is stainless so it won't take a patina. I've also taken a MAPP gas torch to my tenacious clip and let it air cool, it's now a goldish color.

We are thinking blade on here mostly, and sometimes miss the obvious question by not seeing the Forrest for the trees.:o Now we know you are talking about the CLIP and not the blade. Hopefully you will get the right suggestions now.

I know,,I just figured the first line in my post "I'd like to mod my shiny PM2 clip" would have explained very clearly what i wanted to do..

I stone washed the clip on my southard. It stands out less now and better matches the whole knife.

No need to flamebaste the poor guy, he was just trying to be helpful..

Anyways, any of the ways that you described will work, sans the vinegar, as DJ said, the clip is stainless... Something helpful to us would be what you want the end product to be... Maybe an example... both of those would help... from what you've listed, you're looking at dulling the sheen. personally I've always been partial to a combination of an etch/stone wash...

You could sand it down to remove some of the "sheen" and leave a fine scratch pattern on it and then paint it some dull color. It might not last for a long time, but you can always re-paint it. Just a suggestion. Have you looked into replacing it with an aftermarket clip? Another option maybe would be to put some heat shrink tubing on it. Someone on here has done that, and it worked out pretty well for him.

Blessings,

Omar
