PM2 Compression Lock Goodness

I want to start by saying that I by no means love the PM2, but it is a nice knife with a great action I haven't experienced on any other knife so far. The compression lock is just amazing!

I find the detent is just absolutely perfect. I haven't been able to deploy the blade at all by shaking the knife, but I can use the hole to easily deploy with my thumb or middle finger. The blade opens/closes smoothly and stops right where I leave it. No blade play at all.
Holding the compression lock tab, the blade just falls shut with no resistance at all. I love the concept of pinching the lock from the back keeping my fingers out of the way of the closing blade.
And lastly, the lockup is secure every time. Doesn't matter if I open the blade super slowly our flick it open. I can be confident that the lock has fully engaged once I hear it click and won't let the blade loose until I press the lock tab.

I like framelocks and lockbacks, but this compression lock seems to be my favorite by far! I am slowly warming up to the PM2 after a few days use. It has decent ergonomics and a very slicey blade. I'm just not keen on the overall package. I'll have to give the knife a few weeks of use before I can get a complete feel for it, but the compression lock is hands down the best feature for sure!

I really liked the pm 2 I had, but I found the compression lock kind of awkward to use. It had a solid feel to it but I'm more of a liner lock guy.

What? Short of edge retention, you just gave positive marks for everything that matters on a folder...

After a long love affair with overbuilt framelock flippers, I am getting back into other types of knife operation system, and the compression lock and Axis lock are two of them. First of all, I am tired of expensive knives that have edges too thick for practical cutting, second I like a knife that can be opened slowly when I want it to. The Para3 really fits the bill for what I want. The new Benchmade Bugout is a great lightweight slicer too. In their own ways, the compression and axis locks are smooth and finger friendly.

Edge retention is great as well. I have the Blurple S110V model. But the overall package for me is not simply the sum of the parts. Sure it has good ergonomics and slices well, but the odd blade shape, large hole in the blade, and awkward blade/handle ratio leave me feeling at odds using the knife to cut things. I'll have to use it some more to get a feel for it.

Using this knife makes me really want to try the new Shaman with the compression lock. If I could get a compression lock on my Native 5 I think that would make a near perfect everyday user for me.
