PM2 CruWear cutting test

I made a cutting test video with my new (factory edge) PM2. I use 1/4" sisal rope as the media (16') and phone book paper to test for edge degradation. I use the same format for each knife I test for consistency. It may not be a cardboard cutting test, but sisal rope is fairly abrasive and it is a repeatable test where cardboard could vary from box to box.

Rope varies as much as cardboard. If you can find a consistent supply of the same cardboard, its not that bad. I've seen rope vary in less than a foot of length. The source of cardboard I use is more consistent than the rope I've tried, though some variation is still evident. Factory edges also vary a lot. I tend to use news paper, its just more available now days than phone book paper. Every time I get a phone book for testing, my wife recycles it after a couple of days. What steel is that PM2? Any idea of edge angle? My Spyderco knives have varied considerable in edge angle as well. Can you compare sisal to manila rope with regard to testing; more or less abrasive or easier to cut?

Impressive. I seriously expected at least a little phonebook paper tearing after the first section of rope, but at least by the second. Now I kind of regret not getting in on the first round. But with current finances, probably should just wait for a right-priced user down the road.

Nice test! I didn't expect it to do so well. The factory edge on mine was just so-so. I touched it up the other day though, and it's like a laser now!

Btw, I strongly suggest curling your fingers when cutting like that. I almost cut my fingertip off holding an onion the same way you're holding that rope. I was cringing with every cut you made :)

That's great to see! Thanks for taking the time to record and post that.
