I am looking at the Paramillitary II in CMP S35VN but can only find it in brown. does anyone know if this knife comes in any other color but brown?

It's a short production run of a particular model...generally they have special steel or different handle materials, and only a small number are made. If you want a black one, the regular pm2 comes in black with S30V steel...apparently there isn't much difference between the two steels.

The regular models come in black or digi-camo. The special runs have been made in blue, green, brown, and an upcoming orange that is already sold out. You can look on the spyderco website under "exclusives" and see a list of their recent special runs. The brown PM2's are only a little more expensive than the standard models. Some of the other models, especially now that that they are sold out and supply and demand has taken over, can be very expensive.

already bought the brown one, I already have an S30V knife. I know there is very little difference but the S35VN is slightly better (but not much). I kind of collect by steel types. I'm going to roll with the brown. I dont have a brown knife so why not.

Technically, the brown one is NOT a sprint run, just a Dealer Exclusive. Sprint runs have set quantity runs and given to one dealer to sell. This one has many different companies selling it and the quantity produced is unknown, I am sure!

Also, a sprint run is usually done on a pre-order basis and gets sold out, where as this one is not done that way.

Yup, this one is a distributor exclusive, meaning you won't just see it at one site. As for how many are produced, most of the distributor/dealer exclusives have fairly low production runs, and I wouldn't be surprised if this one follows suit. The distributor could have another production run done, but I'm guessing this one will see slow sales compared to many of the other exclusives/sprints due to the steel and I'd be surprised if more were run. The M390 on the other hand has probably done pretty decent sales, and I'd be surprised if bentobox didn't ask for another small production run. On the site he doesn't list a number like he does with the M4 Manix, so my guess is he's planning on not limiting it to a single run.

If you want a PM2 with excellent steel Eric, you should check out the M390 Para2. It's pricier, but M390's pretty awesome stuff. Also, don't get me wrong, S35VN is a great steel and most people won't be able to tell the functional difference between supersteels in day to day use. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with a PM2

Yeah, I have a knife with M390 (BM 581 Barrage). I dont want to pay the differance in price for the PM2 in M390. S35VN cant be to bad, Chris Reeves uses it in the Sebenza and they sell for almost 300.00. I want to own a knife in each type of supersteel so that I can judge for my self. I currently have an S30V (Buck Paradigm Pro), M390 (BM Barrage), 154CM (BM Mini-Onslaught), I will add an S35VN in this PM2. that will take my collection in a different direction (my first Sypderco)

There's absolutely nothing wrong with S35VN. It's a super steel of sorts. Use it and enjoy it, I'm sure it'll do whatever you need it to do, as long as you can live with the brown color. If you can't, you could always get a Native 5 in S35VN for around the same price.

I think you are probably right that we won't see another run of the Moteng's Distributor Exclusive Brown Paramilitaries. I would imagine Golden is working day and night just to keep up production of the standard Paramilitary variations, not to mention the Orange CTS-XHP Cutlery Shoppe dealer exclusive and the Blue Ridge Knives Green CTS-204P distributor exclusive. They must be burnin' the mid-night oil in Colorado.

Presently, I'm waiting on my first Paramilitary.....a brown one....which should arrive by Saturday. As you can imagine, I am very much looking forward to putting it in my pocket and using it. I think S35VN will be just perfect for my needs.

While steel type is one thing to collect, keep in mind that each manufacturer has a very specialized and individual take on how said steel is heat treated. So with this in mind, 154CM varies from Benchmade, to Spyderco, to Emerson, etc. Enjoy the Para2 ;)

I asked a dealer who was advertising this as a sprint run and this is what he told me.

If you want to be 100% accurate you could call it a "Distributor Exclusive Sprint Run". It's exclusive to the distribution company Moteng NA from CA.
It has a set quantity minus the ones lost during QC and the 200+ taken out for the Collectors Club. Seems accurate to call it a sprint run.

...except that that isn't what Spyderco calls these, but hey, what do they know? - they're only the manufacturer.
