PM2 issue, blade centering, loosening pivot screws, tight action

Recently picked up a PM2 that has a few issues. Firstly the blade is not centered, which is not a big deal to me in itself. However I feel like the poor tolerances with which it was manufactured are causing functional issues with the blade opening/closing as well as lateral wobble when in the open position. In addition, the pivot screws work themselves loose. I understand I can use threadlock compound to remedy the loosening screws. However I'm at a loss as to how to balance the lateral wobble vs being able to open and close the blade 1 handed. Should I be setting the screw tightness to just tight enough to eliminate the wobble? And will the blade action eventually wear in so it will drop close? Did I receive a bad PM2 or are these issues "normal"?

Hi Pinker,

Welcome to our forum.

Where did you buy it from?

Hi Sal, thanks for the welcome.

I picked the PM2 up from a member of this board and it arrived yesterday. Said he had carried it a few times and opened a few envelopes, never sharpened. Figured it would be a good first PM2 for me but puzzled by the issues I'm finding.

Also, love the sharpmaker video  . As a 80's kid it really took me back in time lol.

Seems to me, after a bit of searching on the topic, that most likely my expectations for the PM2 were a bit askew as I see the design of the PM2 pivot has been discussed on the boards previously. A few discussions I read about tuning the tightness of the screws should help me dial in the correct blade setting. I'm simply going to add some thread lock then adjust the screws and call it good

Hi Pinker,

Sounds like the knife was "messed" with before you got it. Pretty common problem. Many people think that taking the knife apart and putting it back together still makes it "new or almost new". These knives re assembled by highly trained knife-makers. I question whether it left the factory in that condition? Glad you could get it dialed in.

Blade centering is much improved now as is the action. I added some lubricant to the pivot and threadlock to the screws and adjusted. Makes a world of difference. Great tunability. As long as the thread lock I added holds up, it's golden.
