PM2 Salt Magnacut - why is the DLC blade different?

A friend of mine just went down to pick up a PM2 Salt from a legit dealer and got to compare the Black G10 / DLC blade with the Black/Yellow G10 / Satin Magnacut blade and there are subtle differences to the blades, with the DLC blade being slightly less tall (look at the logo) and sitting closed differently to the Black/Yellow G10 satin blade.

Based on the online pics, the Black/Yellow satin blade is "standard" PM2. The DLC blade is different to online pics.
Also the CPM MagnaCut lettering lasering on the ricasso is not parallel to the Spyderco name, but these are NOT knockoffs.

Is this normal?

Obviously, DLC causes shrinkage.

Kidding. There may be a slight difference in the liner/frame dimensions and/or grind.

Have a micrometer? Are the blades the same thickness at the spine?

Interesting.

I've often wondered how Spyderco does DLC on Magnacut. It's not possible just to coat a non-DLC blade - that would destroy the heat treat. They must have a completely different process for the DLC knives.

He had both knives in front of him and could clearly see the DLC blade was subtly smaller.

In the end he bought the Black/Yellow G10 with satin, but I'd said I'd ask on the forum to see if there was any definitive response.

I went to check mine it does sit deeper in the handle compared to my 15v but when I measure everything else as far as blade height length and grind it's the same the 15v has a slightly more pronounced belly probably just due to the sharpener that day.

I do expect some sharpening variation but in this case there's definitely a difference in gap between he Spyderco bug and the spine.

Doesn't functionally affect anything. Just really odd to see knowing Spyderco's obsessive QC and consistency.
