PM2 vs Enuff or Izula

I love the looks of the Paramilitary 2, but would it serve a purpose in the outdoors vs an Enuff or Izula? Wouldn't a fixed blade be stronger and more versatile?

Generally yes, fixed is better, but if you are just cutting things I don't see why a Para2 would be a problem--with the exception of resharpening. An Izula or a small Becker would be ideal, IMHO. Based on your parameters, my BK14 would be the blade I'd reach for.

I've had a PM2 for a while and I absolutely love it, but I don't use it when I'm out backpacking. I just received an Izula II through a trade on this forum and even though I haven't had an opportunity to use it yet, I would say the Izula is a better "outdoors" knife. It also depends what kind of outdoors stuff your going to be doing. Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't use the PM2 for wood work, not because I don't think it can't handle it, but because I don't want to eff it up.

Interesting. How are the orange plastic scales they sell for the BK14?

PS I love this forum. I get knowledgeable answers so quickly I can have have something ordered by lunchtime :)

yeah, this place is great--I have Ipe scales on my BK14 (made by Tommythewho, purchased via that action site), and a 710 kydex sheath. But I've heard the orange/ black scales work great too.

here is a quick pic I just took:

Wow...that is really nice looking!

I'll look into the the Tommythewho scales. I'm just wondering if the orange/black scales are slippery? It's knocked down to an Izula II or the BK14. I just think there is better value there than the Enuff.

I went with the 14 over the Izzy 2 for the added blade length and the 1095cv--which I think is a touch better than simple 1095. The shorter handle (14 vs Izzy 2) is not an issue with the nice thick Ipe/ wood scales--or so I think, and I have large hands (that is, size Large /with gloves.

search for Becker wooden handles, his are walnut and wipe, etc... should come up

Found them! Thank you! Before I place my order they aren't slippery, right? I just wanted to make sure.

Sorry, just got back on-line. They are not gritty like g10 but they are not slick either; think smooth wood. I think a light sanding can give them some texture.

Hey Fuori, what did you end up going with? Hope you found what you were looking for!

Thank you I did! I'm ordering the Becker :) It just seems like a better value to me. Once I see it I'll decide on the handles, but I'm 99 percent sure I'm going with the wood.

I'll work on the pictures when I get all the pieces together! I still feel I want to add a Spydero . They are just fun and great knifes. I want one!

So just for the outdoors....PM2, Manix 2 XL, Delica, Endura, another one I'm missing? There is nothing wrong with picking two options here since I'll end up buying two anyway :)

I usually like to have my Yellow Pacific Salt Serrated Edge with me in addition to whatever fixed blade. It's a great little backup and there are times when an SE is better than a PE. It's H1 so you never ever have to worry about rust or corrosion and Serrated H1 is amazing. From what I understand H1 is a work hardening steel so when they grind the serrations into the blade you end up with an edge that has hardness similar to ZDP-189 and other really high end steels. I could be wrong about that but I've read that several times on this forum.
