I am trying to decide between these two knives. I already have a pm2 with satin/digi cam. I am really wanting a black/black PM2. But then I see that the gayle bradley 2 is just a couple dollars more. How do people think these two line up. They seem to fit in the same size/use category.

I have both. Both are awesome in their own right. But, I pick my GB over my Para just about every time. It is so solid, the fit and finish is better IMO, its so much classier and distinctive, again IMO, and I enjoy its extra heft.. others won't.

...now I see that you're talking about the GB2. Well, time will tell what others feel about that comparison. I have no plans right now to buy one because, all things considered, I don't see it as being a significant and/or necessary improvement.

But you would consider the GB2 an upgrade? It is about $30 less than the GB1.

Do I feel the GB2 is an upgrade over the Para? Yes. Its a Taichung produced blade with superior materials. And M4...nothing else needs to be said about blade steel...well, its non-stainless nature and low grind-ability do need to be factored in...I don't know what your tasks, environment and sharpening skills/equipment are like.

It's decently humid where I live. The use would just be an edc. Packing tape, cardboard, string etc. I have a spyderco sharpmaker and that is how I sharpen my knives

I live where there is no humidity. One day I washed off my GB1 but failed to dry it off completely. A couple days later when I picked it up there was light rusting. It cleaned up alright for my tastes, but there's a data point for you. Perhaps someone who lives in a humid climate will chime in. I'm curious too.

As far as sharpening is concerned, I would imagine that if you were diligent with touch-ups, the Sharpmaker would prove sufficient. I'm a novice to intermediate Edge Pro user and found M4 to be a fairly challenging but manageable steel.

My brother picked up a Gayle Bradley Air and didn't keep it oiled; it is now rusted all to hell (pivot, spine, the blade itself, etc). I live in Houston, TX so it is very humid down here which might be the reason, but after that I am certainly nervous to pick up any non-stainless knives.

As far as sharpening it goes, I was able to get an extremely good edge on it with just my sharpmaker so I wouldn't worry about that too much.

OP, I would personally go GB2 just to have some variety. YMMV.

My 2 cents ... I am an American made exclusive guy . Which kinda sux , because some of spyderco's sweetest models are Taiwan made . Not saying they are lesser quality that USA made . Just the way I roll .. the Gayle Bradley looks sweet . I own a satin and black on black pm2 . I usually don't like black blades .. but the black on the pm2 and military just calls to me .. it is very durable and has a flat and a little chalky feel to it . As opposed to the shinny black I see on other knives . The screws and lanyard hole spacer are also black . It looks sick .... I named it little Vader ..

Yeah. I am not opposed to foreign made knives. I think spyderco has good quality control. I do really love the look of the black on black PM2. I am getting a little worried about getting m4 because of the rust. I am not careless with my knives but moisture does accumulate sometimes and with my vg10 spydies and my PM2 it has never been a problem.

Given this, I'd recommend the PM2. It's more than sufficient for what you need, and the S30V will hold up against humidity a little better.

This is no slight against the GB. It's an incredible knife. The only drawback for me personally is that the size/weight is a little more than what I'm comfortable with for EDC.

GB vs PM2...

Same size, but GB is heavier and chunkier, with a thicker point. You also get an upgrade in materials, M4 and CF, with fit and finish that approaches custom quality. PM2 is lighter and sleeker and easier to carry.

Some days I prefer the PM2, some days the GB. Since you already have a PM2, get the GB, its worth it. GB2 is not out yet as far as I know.

I have both the GB and PM2. I carry the Bradley often. The PM2 seldom. Both are good knives but the Bradley really shines. In my opinion, the Gayle Bradley Model One is one of the finest pieces of working cutlery around.

What do you guys do to your knives to make them rust? Pack them in salt after washing them in brine? I live in the Southern USA and it's humid enough here to make it feel hot even on days when it's only mildly warm by actual temperature. I can't remember the last time I oiled a knife blade. I keep my Bradley clean by washing it off, shaking out the water and just letting it set out to dry. There is no rust on my blade whatsoever.

I use my knives when i'm saltwater fishing. I've had even S30V knives show tiny rust spots. Nothing that can't be removed easily.

That's just one of those sixes thing. Now that I have the PM2, the GB will be coming shortly. Get the one you like the looks of best.

They are similar in size but their features are a lot different.
The GB is heavier.
The GB has M4 steel. I like M4 but some people might prefer something more stainless.
The PM2 has a thinner blade with keener point.

Basically for me it boils down to the GB being a good work knife, the PM2 being a good EDC knife.

Well said. I like low weight of my PM2, especially for edc, but am always careful not to do anything that might break the point. My GB just feels like a tank, and better for heavy duty tasks. If I had to pick one, it would be the GB for work, as I prefer my Stretch for edc.

I really like my Gayle Bradley and the the design is great for a work knife. But... I can t use mine due to the humidity and salt air. Too much blade corrosion. I mean pits, not just a patina. My s30 v , 154cm and cts xhp blades hold up much better in this setting.

Gayle Bradley for me.Feel more solid, better built, excellent steel and overall best Spyderco out there IMO.

I have both and while both are highly capable, I feel that they fall into different POU. I tend to reach for the PM2 when I'm wearing lighter clothing because it's so light for its size. The GB is more robust IMO, and I'm not afraid to put it through its paces if i need. Might be a good reason to have both at your disposal. :)

In regards to shapening, I have an EP and M4 steel takes some work, but now that I have my bevels set, it's a breeze to touch up with my SM. It's a beast as far as performance.
