Hey everybody, I recently got my first spyderco. Pm3 with cpm s45vn and g10 scales. No defects as far as I can tell, the more I flick it and break it in though the more the lock sticks. Is this a defect? Should I send it in? Or is this somewhat normal.

Have you tried throwing some oil in the area where the compression lock interacts with the blade tang and the stop pin? Could help work out any sticking initially until the actual metal of the lock interface smooths out.

Where the lock meets the tang? I read on a diff thread that oil was the issue. Am I confused? I tried some pencil lead and it’s not sticking for now. Thank you for the reply.

A lot of PM3 stick. Oiling makes it worse. Use Pencil or Sharpie and work it. Don't put your hopes up, though.

In addition to the comments about pencil "lead", powdered graphite is available in small tubes. A little dab will do ya. I'm thinking the new knife needs some more break-in. If the condition persists, Spyderco's service department might offer you some other suggestions that you can do yourself.

I own about 10-12 Para 3 models, none have lock stick out of the box. I immediately lub a new knife with Nano-Oil 10W in the lock bar and ball detent race area,,,, all are very smooth. The recommendation to not oil is not true in my experience.
Out of 20 or more PM2 knives, only one early issue with CPM S35V had a very small amount of lock stick, it is working out with use and is fine today.

IMHO constant Power Snapping the blade open and closed may contribute to poor action and problems.

Regards,
FK

Agreed. I lube all my knives, liner lock, compression lock, axis lock etc. Never seen it to be the cause of lock stick.
