Has any one seen bladeswelove PM3? They're calling it Bladeswelove PM 1.75. They're interpretation of a scaled down PM2. Pictures on there instagram account. I've bought a couple 3 or 4 spyderco's from them and have had excellent service. Thoughts?

It took it a little work because I don't do instagram.

But I found it and it looks interesting.

How much is it is the question.

Bladeswelove says 250-260. "You will be able to order one in the color you like". "All will include a custom lanyard tube and Ti screws".

This is the question? I'm not sure if these are bought from spyderco and modified by Bladeswelove? 100% Spyderco made for Bladeswelove? I'd be interested to know?

Mike

Looks pretty weird to me. How are these being made?

I'd be astonished if they were made especially by Spyderco. It seems far more likely that bladeswelove has just modded a whole bunch of PM2s in a repeatable way (sort of like the mini southard flippers modded by Smock knives).

Not really impressed with how it looks. It's shorter while still retaining the fatness. looks like a less capable PM2. It would have been interesting to see a significantly scaled down handle both in length and thickness while retaining the same sized blade.

Yeah, exactly.

Looks like ground down blade spine to shorten blade length, and shortened handle by grinding off the ends of the liners and relocating lanyard tube and clip screw holes. Then custom scales over the top.
Not sure why they chose to replace the hardware with Phillips heads...

Not very desireable to me for some reason... and this makes me feel less excitement for the actual Spyderco manufactured version.

I kind of like it. Not big on the scales that are on the one in the photos but in another color I think it would look good. Isn't this sort of what people are expecting the official "PM3" to be? I mean if this was the knife released by Spyderco would everyone be picking it apart or would they be getting their pre-orders in? Really all bladeswelove did was get rid of the excess part of the handle, that to be honest no matter which way I hold a PM2 I have at least an inch of open handle showing. So this allows for a full grip on the knife but just gets rid of the wasted space that is on the original. Don't get me wrong as I love, love, love my PM2. I'm just wondering what people would say if that knife had black Spyderco G10 scales on it and was the real deal. Would you honestly be disappointed or excited to get your hands on one?

The handle seems to be the only thing I hear people gripe about when it comes to the PM2. I get about an inch of wasted space on the handle as well. if that was taken off, it would be a nice improvement. I don't really hear anything negative about the blade length. Everyone seems to think it's perfect. And it probably is. one of the best knife blades I've ever had the pleasure of using. well rounded for all sorts of tasks. I just wish it was a little more pocket friendly. This is why I always seem to gravitate towards my trusty delica

They buy the smaller frames from Spyderco and then regrind the standard PM2 blades? or....??
I is confusion.

We both is confusion ;-). I believe Steve from Bladeswelove has been on the forum, perhaps he or maybe Sal could fill us in on the build. Also I wonder how Spyderco's PM3 would differ?

Mike was stating that as a question...

Spyderco doesn't make any different liners for the Paramilitary 2.

Bladeswelove is altering production PM2's and adding custom scales to go over their in-house modified shortened liners.

In-house manufactured or modified from the original sized PM2 liners?
Seems like it would be a lot of work to start with a PM2 and grind it away to look like this thing here. But I supposes that's the extra $100 on each one eh?

Yeah, like 50an mentioned above; Smock has been doing it with the Southards.
Same concept here.
Grinding it away consistently is probably the easy part. Then you have to drill them for the lanyard tube, and drill and tap clip holes to match the custom scales that are nested for the smaller liners.

I have seen someone who did this similar process to a Military to make it more PM2 sized, just because they preferred the liner lock. Maybe a but easier with that since it doesn't have full length liners, though...

I had to wait a bit before I decided if I liked it or not. Looking at it a second time though.....I think I like it. It's what we've asked for; same fatness with the ends cut down. I'm not going to buy one of the modded ones; holding out for the real deal.
I think, and this just a guess, Spyderco might trim it down fatness wise.

It would be real nice to see the prototype about now though.

why do they play these games with the so called pm3 is be on me let us know so we don't spend our money elseware.

I know you could be joking around, but the more people act like that and the slimmer the chance that Sal himself will ever hint to us forum members about models in the works! Nobody wants that, so don't give them any reasons to keep tight lipped about the future. ;)
They have in no way made an official release announcement for (an even unnamed model) this knife, so I don't believe anyone is playing games with anyone else. :D
