Drove across the state to Spokane this weekend to visit my Mom.
It was a looonnnggg drive.
We took the scenic route on the way there. Good ol Hwy 12.
Got a few pics of the drastic landscape changes between Western Wa. and Eastern Wa.

Here's a shot about 30 miles from my place. Just a random hill outside of a random gas station.

We were driving through a small town and saw a few Elk right off the side of the road.

Going over the pass. It's just a beautiful area.

You know you're in Eastern Washington when there are no trees, no green, and just brown hills with scrub brush. :D

And of course, the BK11 rode around my neck all weekend.

Great pics. I've driven through there too many times to count and love it every time.

no no no. you know you're in CENTRAL Washington when there are no trees, no green, just desolate brown hills covered with scrub brush. It's fugly there.
-Western Washington, green and beautiful.
-Central Washington, Armpit of America.
-Eastern Washington/North Idaho = beautiful dry pine country - Trees and Mountains and Rivers. God's Country once again. Fly fisherman's heaven.

It's that Ellensburg to mile marker 255 (when the trees show up again) that's brutal.
Says the guy who lives in Spokane and drives to the west side to visit his folks. i wonder if we ever pass each other going opposite ways :).

To be fair, Central Washington does have one thing going for it, though. and it's a big one thing.
Lahontan Cutthroat in the Alkali Lakes. Ugly as sin country, but man the fish are huge:
