Pocket catch opener

I have some friends that like to remove their thumb studs and add a Zip-tie so they can open the knife during withdrawal from their pocket. I thought it was cheap & "Ghetto" like, so I drew something up and this is what I made during my free time at my machine shop. As it turns out, this little opener works on every knife I have with a removable thumb stud.

Below is a quick video of the device in operation.

Anything is possible in this depressed economy. Catering to "preppers" and all the knife lovers may help bring some extra income into my machine shop. Being a knife user, I don't know how I survived this long without this bolt-on. I am glad I have documented drawings.

I would definitely try and market this bdt. I think you're on to something here that a lot of people might be interested in. Put up a couple threads around the site see who'd be interested. I'm with 9blades, you could make some good money.

Thanks for the encouragement, but with over 200 views I was hoping for more replies and comments. Unless people are seeing what I did and making one at home. Those won't work as well. The Stainless I use in that gauge is really rigid and has to be bought from the one supplier here in So. Cal.

I am going to take the Picture down with this post.

Thanks again.

If you don't sell it your self you could sell it to a supplier like blade hq or alpha knife supplie.

If the cost is vaguely reasonable I'm in for at least one, probably more like 3-5 with more coming. Does the design uust clip into the hole left by the thumbstuds?

It seems to work well, and as in your video, it would be a great addition to many knives that don't have a wave/thumb plate, etc.

I can't really see how it attaches though, and if you want to sell it, you'll need to advertise a method to determine whether it will fit on any given knife before ordering, or you will get returns on knives where it interferes with the liners/grip scales, etc. A compatibility list won't do, as that won't help with custom knives. You'll have to post a measurement protocol where a person can take a ruler to their knife and determine definitively if the device will fit properly.
