AnyCal if your knife is like these here then here is the answer. I have done several dozen Buck 110s and 112s the same way if not more.
The major expense is the #44 carbide drill bit that I insist each person wanting a thumb stud purchase either through me or on their own and send with the knife. I use #44 drills all the time but rarely do I stock the carbides or use them if a cobalt or HSS bit will work. I do keep them but one or two that I need for myself on occasion. These are expensive bits being carbide so if I have to use one of mine I charge for it due to how easily they dull in a blade and also and more importantly how easily they break because they are so brittle. I've had these darn things shatter on the first use being this small. About the only one worse is the 1/16" ones.
Anyway, after shipping these are like $15 to $17 just for the drill bit from Texas Knifemaker Supply. I don't have an invoice right here in front of me.
Sometimes if I catch the right person I can sweet talk her into just sticking a bit in a first class envelope and mailing it to me but it has not always been the case. Many times I can see that they did in fact mail it first class for $.82 but that the invoice still had the full shipping charge billed to my credit card.
So with that said, that is the majority of the cost on the stud. Depending on the thumb stud you want I can use one that I have here that runs like $2.50 each. I have been charging $25 for the stud install.
My clips are $30 plus shipping. So the job you ask about runs about $55 plus or minus depending on how you want it shipped back. Priority by itself is $4.60 and if you want signiture confirmation on top of that its an additional $1.75. I usually round it off like to seven bucks but nothing is written in stone.
I do ask that everyone preparing to mail anything to me read post number one in my low rider pocket clip thread which is at the top of the page on every page. When checking that post please pay particular attention to the bold print. Once you have the routine down to mail to me you can then mail at your convenience. Typically on these smaller jobs where I'm working on someone's everyday carry knife I get them in and get them completed and mailed back the same day but this time of year I am usually swimming in work and that is certainly the case now. I may be 24 or 48 hours gettting to it since I'm pretty swamped at present with more coming in. But even slow I am still faster than most I think.
Most of the guys around here pay me up front on these smaller jobs but I never ask for that or tell them I want it that way. I think most do this because they know I simply get the job done and mail their knives back ASAP but you can wait. I'm easy either way. I do take pay pal and can let you know when I'm done so you can pay me that way providing you don't mind adding for the fee.
Actually since starting my forum everyone is just a click away from knowing the status of their work sent to me because all forum work I do is posted here in a thread dedicated to your folder. The only stuff I don't post is the stuff from manufacturers referals that come my way where the guys many times have no idea these forums even exist until I tell them about them. Sometimes if its unique or worth posting I'll post it but most of those are too small and frequent to worry with. Besides its not like the owners can see it.
Thanks for asking and let me know. Oh and thanks for stopping by my forum.
