Confession - I used to carry and still have in the car somewhere, a knockoff Air SOG. It has a molded clip, like the old Spyderco/Cold Steels. Naturally, I thought that the real McCoy had a clip, but it does not. Has anyone ever tried to retro-fit a clip to the AirSOG?

Hi RH,

I hear that confession is great for the soul. Feel any better for unburdening that you own a knock-off SOG? ;)

In my desk at work, along with about 30-40 various knives, is a knock-off Air-SOG. Though a cheap imitation, it is structured very similarly along with nearly identical looks. In other words, Zytel (maybe a lesser quality material on the knock-off) handles. There are no steel liners.

To do a clip install well, the screws should be anchored into a steel liner. My guess is, the screws would strip out at a little more than light to moderate tension (if not during the installation process). You may wish to try wood-type screws with aggressively deep threads, then back them out and permanently epoxy them in. I wouldn’t offer much hope in either success or that the install would last long (especially if you use the clip as one is intended).

The SOG Air-SOG comes standard with a dual mounting (vertical and horizontal) nylon pouch. I might suggest this method to carry your pos knock-off! ;)

Sorry RH, knock-offs are a very sensitive subject with manufacturers like SOG. A number of manufacturers have quite a number of their models ripped of (Spyderco with likely the most). It is a sign of flattery to be replicated, but it does erode at our sales and reputation.

As long as you don’t “bring” your knock-offs here to play with, you are more than welcome to come and play in the SOG forum anytime! ;)

...A POS Air-SOG rip-off???.:(

I think the guy SHOULD BE BANNED! (At least 'till he sees "the Light" and buys a REAL SOG knife!.:).).

At least buy a POS rip-off of an expensive SOG...:p
Seriously, a genuine Air-SOG is not that much money, but is a great knife for what you pay. I've had mine for a number of years... still do - somewhere in the attic - exactly where I set it down while insulating... Now, if only I could remember where that was; under 14" of blown fiberglass...:o :(

well...I guess I should come clean and admit that I also own an Autoclip knockoff (it has a non-adjustable spring clip). I used to have a plain edge mini-Autoclip too - until I lost it, it was my favorite airplane knife prior to the present unpleasantness.

What can I say? Prior to discovering BFC and quality knives, I was a big accumulator of POS knives from the flea market. I've repented and no longer buy them, but I just cannot bear to throw out even the worst knife I own, figuring it's still good for something.

If I am truly offensive to you guys, I'd be happy to accept any real SOG in donation to my recovery. :)

I'm shocked!!! Talking about POS SOG rip off's is worse than using profanity on the forums!!! Ban him, Ban him, Ban him!!!!:D ;)

RH,
You must have big round ones to come in here and admit that.

Cheers,
Gord.:D

I was willing to cut you some slack, but it looks like the lynch mob is forming! ;)
