Pocket clip question... Lost knife

I recently bought a full size Bantam in camo with the pocket clip. I really like the knife, especially for the price. Clipped it into my pocket for opening day hoping to get to use it on a deer or elk... I noticed the clip didn't have a lot of tension to it so I figured I would take it off and put more tension in it when I got home. Latter that day I noticed it was gone, it had slipped off when I was out looking for my coyote I shot. This is the first knife I have ever lost and I know its not the end of the world, but was wondering if anyone else has had this problem ....

Sorry to hear about your lost knife. I have never had luck using any clip to keep my knife in any pocket with the exception of Carhartt bibs front chest pocket. I thought it was just me because I see a lot of knives carried that way.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your knife. I have experienced that same sinking feeling before to, and it isn't fun.
The only hunting knife we offer with a clip is the Bantam and I think that is because most hunters would rather have their knife packed away in their back pack. Knives left clipped on pockets and such can easily get removed by branches or brush. I once had a model 186 Odyssey on my pocket while I was clearing brush and after an hour or so of work, I noticed it was gone. The next thing i know I saw it neatly clipped to a small branch I had tossed into a pile to be burned.
Even with the TNT I use as my EDC, i find that just the act of sitting down will cause it to be pushed up to where it is only half way clipped on and it has a lot of tension on the clip. I still carry it and now it is just habit to check it as I go.
We dont cover loss but I hate thinking about you loosing the knife so quickly without having a chance to even use it. If you would not mind sending me an email, I might be able to help some.
Take care,

Joe
I just bought two new Buck Tempest because I have the Buck bug! Now I know why I got the Buck bug. It’s the way you treat your customers and a great product. Thanks!

Stockdog,
Thank you for the kind comments! :)
Welcome to Buck buyers annonymous! :D Members have been frantically searching for a cure but to no avail thus far. I believe I started out with only a couple knives too. Seems like such a long time ago. :)

Take care,

Dear Mr. Houser...

Recently I was on vacation. I took my 172 TNT to the beach...clipped to my short's pocket. The only time I recall using it that day was to eat a bento lunch from the gas station (lady forgot to throw a fork in the bag).
I know I clipped it back on me when I was done eating.

When I got back from the beach, I noticed it was missing.

The 172TNT must've fell out or was taken by a crab as I was laying in the surf taking a pic of my 110FG NS Koa at sunset.

I am really bummed. :(

Kind Regards,
Mr. Goose.

yea i had someting similar happen with a clip knife. this is what happened to me. while on a shopping trip i picked up a case of soda and placed it into a shopping buggy. i used only one hand to retrieve it from down very low on a shelf and i felt it hit my knife, which was clipped in my right side jeans pocket, as i raised it up high enough to place it into the buggy. i never give it a second thought and continued shopping. later when i when i needed my knife, it wasnt there where it was supposed to be in my pocket. i thought to myself, crap, ive lost it somewhere! and being one of my favorite knives i was pissed and greatly concerened because it was auto as well. the lose of the knife did not bother me near as much as thinking some small child might find it and get seriously hurt with it. i had it scrary sharp too! after arriving home i was placing the groceries in their proper places and when i picked up the carton of soda to place it in the frig, low and behold, there was my knife! it had caught on soda carton and had completely attached itself to the carton being fully clipped to one of the carton edges. i learned a good lesson from that mistake. maybe this might help someone else not to make the same mistake i did and loose a good knife. luckily i found mine but sure thought it was gone!,,,,VWB.

Sorry but the warranty does not cover theft by a crustacean. Had it been an octopi, (i think that is the singular form of octopus?) we may have had something to work with here. :foot:

So when do we get to see the pictures of your 110fg ns koa?

Hey Joe...
Actually, the 172TNT made it home just fine. :) Just figured that since you were in a generous mood, I'd give it a try

Here's a pic of the 110FG NS Koa in the sun at the beach:

As for the original query of this thread...I wear a 882 daily clipped in the right rear pocket. Unless I am wearing my Speedos, it is with me constantly. It has never slipped off.

Prior to the 882 I EDC'd a 889. Once when I got outta the car I noticed it on the seat. Other than that, I have never had a problem with a clipped carry.

WOW! I think I just found a new screen saver! What an awesome picture, thanks for sharing. (You could have left out the part about the speedo tho.)

I'm glad to hear that the tnt made it home safely and the same goes for VWB, glad to hear you found your knife to!

It may be small and not have a lock but a 303 will fit in the watch pocket of 'real' bluejeans just about as good as if it was made E-specially for it. Now, if they would just put a watch pocket on some of the ole-man elastic waisted models.....:p

Been carrying my Rush clipped to either my pocket or my waistband for the last few years, never had a problem, sorry you lost yours 338375.

Thanks for the replies... I sent you an e-mail Joe, but I just finished a 14 hour day at work and wasn't really awake, so I'm not sure if it made any sense or not LOL ..... I knew the knife didn't like to stay clipped and tried to keep an eye on it, but after shootin that coyote I forgot about it when I was climbin the hill to go get him.... As you mentioned there are a lot of knives that have a tendency to do this, so it was not just the Bantam. I do appreciate your offer to help with this matter even though its definetely not a warranty issue. Thanks Mike

Just curious here, do you all wear the clipped knife to where the knife is inside a pocket, or clipped to a belt, jeans, or pocket, to where the knife body is outside.

I have been edc'ing a 174 and 179 (alternately) but wear them to where the knife is inside a pocket. Probably a good thing too after the screws came loose on the 174 clip.

I've never lost a folder clipped in my pocket yet but then I usually EDC a small Sebenza with a titanium clip with excellent retention. I have other folders (Bucks, Gerbers, BMs, CRKT, etc.) with steel clips that either came without much tension or have gradually given up their tension with use.

Several of these have a cut-out in the top of the clip to accommodate the pivot screw and this seems to make these clips much more liable to losing tension. My ideal pocket clip, short of titanium, would be in the style favored by Ernie Emerson.

This said, if I'm busting brush I will remove anything that can snag and carry it deeper in a pocket or in a horizontal belt sheath. I've had knives pulled out of sheaths by heavy brush.

I usually carry my folders in my pocket, without using the clip. I just don't like how a clipped knife binds and pushes up when I sit down.

That's what I really like about the small Sebenza . . . not so big as to create problems when sitting.
