Bear with me here. Within the last 24 hours I have had two separate conversations about pocket clips when withdrawing a knife from your pocket. I have always used my index finger on the flat part of the clip. IE: like where the spider is on a Spyderco knife. My coworker puts his index finger in the curved part of the clip that bends downward. My friend just told me that he hooks his index finger at the rounded end of the clip that points upward. What do YOU guys do? Is there a right/correct way to position your finger on the clip for proper/positive knife with drawl? I'm sorry if this is a silly question, but I'm curious.

For me, it depends on the knife. Every knife holds to the pocket in a different way and will need to be pulled from a different point to get leverage. I typically learn on day one where i need to pull from on a knife. For instance, a ZT 801ti, i pull from the rounded end of the clip. On a ZT 393, i pull from the clip screws

To save my pants from fraying, I try to pry the clip open a little with my finger as I pull the knife out, if that makes sense.

I grab for the rounded end of the pocket clip. This way doesn't put more tension on the clip.

None of the above.

Most of the time I actually don't touch the clip at all. When drawing my knife without thinking (which is what I usually do) I put my thumb in the pocket and use friction to pull it up until there is enough handle exposed for me to wrap my fingers around it and pull it out the rest of the way. I didn't realize I was doing it that way until just now, when checked to see how I did it. When I am conscious about pulling it out I usually rest my index finger along the side of the clip and apply pressure with the side of my middle finger on the clip's screws. Pinching the end of the knife between my thumb and middle finger. If the pocket seam provides resistance I curl my index finger around the end of the clip to provide that last bit of needed leverage.

Thanks for the thread. I learned a little something about myself today. ;)

I use a 2 inch lanyard on mine ao i can just hook it with any finger and pull up. Before this i pinched the knife itself and pull up. I like my frayed pocket edge. Has charecter. Like those pants that are all worn out and cost 3x as much.
