I have posted this issue over in the maintance/tinkering/embellishment forum and was recommended to come post my issue over here.

I lost one of the pocket clip screws a while back and was simply using the remaining pocket clip screw to hold it on. The other day I caught the pocket clip on something and it snapped the head off of the remaining screw. I was able to remove the headless screw with a needle nose pliers so all I need to remedy the situation is the replacement screws to reattach the pocket clip.

I contacted Buck and they informed me that I would have to send the knife in to replace the screws because they have liability issues with sending out parts for customer replacement. I was informed that if I happened to cut myself while replacing the pocket clip...they would be liable.

I have no problem paying for the replacement parts, I was just hoping to avoid paying $5-$10 in shipping and then waiting for a month and a half for my knife to get back to me since this is such a simple fix. This whole ordeal seems like an odd excuse for either not wanting to send the replacement parts or just not wanting to deal with it in general.

I love the knife and up until the breaking of the screws, it was in my pocket every single day. I have actually been looking at picking up another one(either the same size, the smaller one, or maybe even stepping up and getting a Paradigm), but this is making me second guess it a little bit.

If you call and talk to Joe Houser, specifically, and he knows it is coming and tells you how to address it, I would bet a vanilla shake you will have it back in under two weeks. If you contact him he appreciates you being a forum member and if you are a BCCI member its even better. 300

Or he may just send you a new clip and screws. Like he did for me a few years back. It is an oddball size smaller than a 2/56 like that is used by many other companies.

I have to update this to be fair to Buck.

After I had cross posted this from maintenance/tinkering(of course) I got into work and opened my email. Staring back at me was a response from my contact person at Buck saying that they would make an exception "this one time" and send me the screws to fix it myself.

I do appreciate them working with me and finally going with the easiest/cheapest route to get my (admittedly self inflicted) problem. They did not ask for a payment even though I offered so I do have to give them an A+ for making things right, if the products do show up. I did not have to get Joe Houser involved but I greatly appreciate the recommendations to contact him to make things right.

I am a little upset that it took me getting somewhat upset in my emails before they agreed to simply ship the screws, but I do appreciate them finally handling things in the most sensible manor to avoid shipping a whole knife halfway across the country instead of just mailing some small parts to facilitate a very simple replacement.

Thanks Everyone.

Any pocket clip screws should be deployed and blue locktite added. Red if you never plan on them coming out again.

I have had one or two lost.. ONCE...

Many of Bucks handle kits come with blue already on the screws.

Just wanted to give the final update. Envelope arrived today with the needed parts and it included extras just in case I manage to botch the replacement and strip out a screw or if I can't get the clip bent back into the right spot.

Kudos to Buck for making everything right!!

Buck and Kershaw are great for warranty items! Interesting that Buck has such a policy about sending screws as Kershaw will send you new screws, clips and springs for an AO right away no questioned asked. I guess their legal departments have had different issues with customers.....
