Pocket Clip Screw Size & Replacement?

Hi -

Doing a forum search to find what I needed, I've seen other posts from members who've done the same as me. Stripped out the hole on the pocket clip screw. Like others, I used a dremel to cut a flat head slot and got it out. It wasn't even that tight but the CRK allen wrench didn't fit well enough. I need to pick up a good set with bits & a handle.

Anyway - I'd like to know the size of the screws and a potential source to obtain a couple spares. I'm sure I could get them from CRK, I'm just curious to see what else may be available. That high domed screw seems susceptible to stripping to me. Maybe use another screw that is a bit flatter and maybe torx. As an aside, I'm actually a bit surprised CRK hasn't gone to torx. Perhaps, out in the field, an allen set is easier to obtain and strip down your knife if needs be maybe. Dunno.

Either a 5-40 or 5-44

I will check a bit closer later after I take my 25 apart..might be a bit..I am under some pressure to deliver some parts.

Either way, it's not a common screw that you will find in a warehouse.

That'd be much appreciated.

Yeah, I'm figuring I'll need to order from one of the knife makers parts shops. I'm wanting to order a few pocket clips too, so I can combine an order.

Obviously I can't promise that CRK will do this for you, but I asked them about buying some back up screws and a spare pocket clip and they just charged me for the clip and sent a half dozen screws for free.

This does not apply to all variations but on most CRKs the screws go into a nut(?) that is hollow, meaning you can get the allen wrench really deep in there, no chance of stripping.

Ok...Had a chance to check it out. Looks like it's a 4-48 after closer examination.

I would probably call CRK and get the screws as that is an odd thread..Not quite as odd as the previously mentioned...but odd enough.

One thing I might mention for in the future... I use a Torx bit that fits snugly in the screw head instead of risking nicking something up with a dremel. It may fit tight but you can tap it in so it doesn't just spin.

Thanks Jon for the help. I've since ordered some Wiha allen so I know for sure they'll be good and will be sure just to get the screw snug, but not over tighten.

I also called and ordered two spare clips, verified they come with screws, but like a dummy, didn't ask about just getting screws alone. Did order some off the large auction site, but could only find black. I figure that'd work till I got a proper matching one from CRK. They are kind of hard to find in that weird size as mentioned.

I appreciate all the nice responses from you guys.
