Curious what type of steel is the pocket clips on a manix 2 and endura made out of. Is it stainless? Spring steel? If its spring steel, can it take a patina?

What about heAt anodizing? Bad idea? Im looking for a way to darken the pocket clip after removing the black coating and in some cases after the black coating has worn off.

This is not black, but:
You can make it dull gray. Remove paint, soak in ferric chloride 5 min, wash in running water, lay on paper towel to dry, don't touch with hands till it's dry.

for what it's worth

I don't like polished clips usually, so I've heat anodized a couple to darken them and then stonewashed them to even out the colour.
Not sure if this is dark enough for you...

I put a nice satin finish on my the shiny clip for my blurple PM2 with a bit of Scotchbrite. Then, I heat colored it carefully with a propane torch. Here was the result.

That is nice. Reminds me of "old school" color case hardening on firearms.

What method did you use to get it that dark and that even. I have never seen a heat anodized one that dark and even before.

Propane torch heated and quenched a few times until it was dark enough. Then stonewashed right after, the stonewashing seems to even out the color.
