Pocket Clip Threads Stripped Out

I need some help. I tried this on the Spyderco Forum, but got no replies, so I'll try here. I bought a used Spyderco Centofante. It did not have a pocket clip, so I purchased one. It has 3 screws that hold it on. The threads in one of the screw holes, on the knife handle are stripped out. I tried using teflon tape to hold it in, with no good results. I don't think locktite will help, because the screw will not tighten down enough to hold the clip. Is the best solution drilling out the hole and retapping the threads? If so, where do you buy small taps and screws? Are there any other ideas on how to fix this knife? Are there any shops that do this kind of repair? Thanks in advance.

Drilling and re-tapping are certainly an option, but why not try an epoxy first? Something like JB weld should do the job as long as you're not constantly torquing down on that screw. If it doesn't hold to your satisfaction, drill and tap.

i agree with WilliePete, try some kind of adhesive like red loctite. if your clip has three or more screws, you'll be able to get by with that type of fix. good luck!

If you do elect to rethread it. You can get taps and drills from any of the knife suppliers. Knife and Gun finishing supplies or Jantz or any number of others carry them.

If I were you I would consider drilling it out and redoing it. Loctitie will not work, if their are no good threads it will not help. You could try the expoxy, but it would not be a very good fix and you may not get it as tight as you like, even with clamping it.

Hi Dwain,

Did you contact Spyderco warrantee & repair?

I'm sure they can assist you. We try not to tie up the Spyderco forum with questions that are better solved through the department created for that purpose.

Sal, No, I did not try to contact Spyderco about this problem. I did not think it would be covered by warrenty, and I did not think of your repair shop. I will try to contact them Monday. Thanks for the reply. Dwain

Thanx Dwain, appreciate.

It is our goal to try to serve the customer. It is the customer that we all do it all for, isn't it?

Amanda will take good care of you.
