I just joined the Sebenza fan club.

I bought a new, unused large Sebenza made in 1993 (it was advertised as a 94 but the card in the box states it was made in the summer of 1993) from a knife store. The guy at the shop said it'd been hiding under a counter for years, was discovered, and put in the case. The store had a number of CRK fixed blades but only the one Sebenza.

It doesn't have a pocket clip. Has anyone sent a Sebena back to CRK to have a clip added?

It's a great knife.

The Sebenzas circa 1993 did not come with pocket clips, and to install one would require milling of the clip recess into the back scale. I don't know if CRK would perform this modification, and it would certainly reduce the collector value of this early Sebenza (but maybe not if CRK does the mod), although the pocket clip would certainly add functionality if you need that feature. There is a simple elegance to these early clipless Sebenzas with their beautifully polished blades. IMO it would be a shame to modify it as they are rarely found for sale anymore, especially in new condition. Great find! By the way, is there a "P" or a "P" and a number near the CR logo engraved on the front scale? Either of these markings adds another layer of collectibility!

yes... there is a P-230 engraved near the CR logo.

So much for the clip...

Yes, numbered original Sebenzas (I think the first 300 production Sebenzas from this era were numbered) are highly desirable to the growing CRK collector base. Quite the piece to introduce you to the excellence and desirability of CRK products. If you want a Sebenza with a clip to trade please let me know!

I do not think it would be wise to modify that folder. In fact many would keep it in mint condition. I'd sooner sell it for a good price and get you another that already has a clip on it or at least if you plan to carry and use it just get you a nice belt pouch for it.

Don't worry anyone... the knife is going into the safe as is. I thought about getting one of the leather pouches from CRK... and I might still to pocket carry it on special occassions... and maybe not. I will not ruin or modify any potentially rare blade... even if I wanted to carry it everyday.

I've a half-dozen good Spydercos, an Emerson, and a Strider. I carry all of them. This is the 1st Sebenza I've held and I'm hooked. Seems I'll be buying a new one in the near future.

I'm glad I rescued this old Sebenza. I don't feel bad about paying $399 for it now...

Thanks to all who posted.

Seriously nice score of a NIB #'d P Sebenza! This tale warms my heart, any CRK collector would be envious of your purchase. Enjoy the knife!
