Pocket Clips to Big ?

A while ago, when I was using my Kershaw Leek, I was wondering why does this clip have to be so long. Most of the time I am in jeans and keep the knife in my right front pocket. I then decided to make a smaller one and see if I could reason why the need for a clip this long. After about a week I have not had any reason to go back to the larger clip. A smaller clip would be less conspicuous and have less of a chance of getting caught as well as being more comfortable in the hand. I have also tried this Leek in casual pants. The JYD clip is the worst I have ever seen and that one I might address next. What are your thoughts as to the size of clips?

I habitually modify over-large clips and have replaced a few altogether. I like them to be small and to carry the knife DEEP. I really should just replace those on my JYD's, but shaving them down helps---this is a shaved/steel blackened one next to a standard. The blackened stainless is starting to show some wear as you can see, but has held up pretty well, and is far less visible against most pants. Of course, IWB carry helps the most.

t1mpani,
I had made a smaller one for the JYD quite a while ago but it is still to large IMO.

I agree 100%.

I like the idea of smaller clips. As long as it is secure, I don't think they have to be as long as most of them are.

I would like to see the mfg. cut back on the size of their clips. Guess many of us will have to alter the size or make our own. I'm still looking for a good reason why they make them as large as the do. I'm sure that they can make them secure if I can.

On most of my edc's I have shortened the clips to about 1" to 1.5" in length, covered them in 3M black stair step tape, and with some, converted them into foldover clips for deep-carry. It is necessary to rebend them a little so that they have a solid grip on your pocket, but that isn't that hard to do using a microtorch. I'm just one of those folks who doesn't want everyone around me whispering, "he's got a knife in his pocket".

Pics of a couple;

Have to be later as I can't get photobucket to operate correctly at the moment.
