Stupid question but how do you guys prefer to mount them? so they are inside of your palm? or on your finger side? Also whats your carry preference, tip up or tip down? and why???

TIA
Dave

I mount the clip so it is tip up in my right front pocket. I won't carry a knife for EDC if it cannot be put into that configuration.

So I guess the clip would be in my palm as I use the knife, or against my fingers as I open it.

Palm side (more grip with which to open the knife), tip-up (clip clips onto belt! Doesn't take pocket space and no need for holster.)

I usually try the folders out and let them kind of tell me which they feel better in. Some carry better in the pocket tip down, some tip up, some feel better in the hand and work better one way over another and others it just doesn't matter. On those I always go tip up which is actually the one I prefer.

On the Kabar Dozier Thorn, I couldn't really even get comfortable with the knife and didn't feel it opened as easily in tip up so I put it back to the factory tip down carry even after drilling and threading my own holes to remount a clip on it.

On the BenchMade Dejavoo its hard to justify tip up when it sits nearly invisible like it does in tip down from the factory. Due to the handle shape it would simply not utilize the low rider style pocket clip to its max potential in tip up so to me its not a good move.

Anyway, thats how I do it personally. To me how a knife rides in the pocket is just as important as the blade, the shape, the feel and looks and anything else, especially when you consider that this location on the pocket is where it resides most of the time when its on you.

Excellent point. In terms of pure utility (steel snobbishness, ergonomics, etc. aside) my LM new Wave with pocket clip would be the "best" EDC I could have, but I can't stand feeling like I'm carrying a monkey wrench in my pocket.

Palm side always. I am right handed and I clip the knife to the inside of my right rear pocket.
Tip up depending on the knife.

I always have my knife clipped to my right pocket, inside, preferably tip-up.

One of my favorite knives, a SS Police, can only be carried tip-down so I'm not too picky about it though.

I carry my clipped knives in my right pocket. Tip up or down depends on the knife and given the choice, I don't automatically mount the clip in a certain way.

I've been EDC'ing a BM 710 since January '06, and it's only a tip up knife and it works well in that configuration. But lately around the house I've been carrying a Spyderco Centofante 4 and I like it as a tip down knife.

I'm considering replacing the 710 with a Spyderco Paramilitary at some point in the near future and the Para is only tip down.

Except for my Mnandi, where I have it palm side (not thumb side) to help my grip for one-handed opening, I take them all off!

it is going to depend on your preference and carry. I prefer to carry mine tip up but I prefer to have the option of both tip up or down because sometimes you need it.

:D

I keep the removable ones in a drawer :).

Finger side. Palm side doesn't help me because the knife doesn't rest against my palm when I'm opening it... it lays across my fingers, they close around it, and my fingertips rest on top of the clip.

The only time I use a clip for carry is IWB and I prefer tip down for that. EDCs ride in my RFP but not clipped. Nothing else goes in my knife pocket so it's pretty easy to find the knife when I need it.

Palm side, tip down. For all the folders I have, tip down leave less of handle exposed outside pocket.

Am I Evil, Metallica tune playing in the background.

If the knife has a hole I like the clip in the front, tip down, if the knife is studded I like the clip in the palm, tip up.

Yes I am

Tip down, palm side, but that's with my edc chive where I'm not given a choice. Works for me though. The little lock on the chive usually necessitates two handed handling to unlock it anyway. By that time, the A/O flick is nice, but more gimmicy at that point given that I'm not going to win any race to get my pocket knife open.
