Pocket folder, <3 inches, in carbon fiber

Looking for a small EDC that is less than 3" blade length in carbon fiber (black or blue carbon fiber--to match my Rohrbaugh R-9s). I am willing to spend up to about $150 if necessary. ;)

I am considering the Blade-Tech Mouse II. I have also looked at (but never held) the small William Henry carbon fiber models -- but they seem a bit dainty or dressy for everyday use -- maybe I am wrong?

Any other suggestions in this class, and where would you buy them?

Thanks!

You already beat me to it, the Mouse is the very first knife that popped in my head.
I have the old Spyderco Mouse & it rocks!

BM 770BC1 - It's a beauty.
And it has the AXIS lock !

In your price range I would look at the Benchmade 770 series, they make a cf version with a dlc coated blade but it's also the most expensive.

I have one in black aluminum with dlc and it's been a heavy user for a couple of years. I took the clip off of it and carry it loose in the pocket.

You might be able to find a used, or almost new William Henry Lancet in CF for around that much, but it would be difficult. That would be my choice, in that price range. A. G. Russell makes a small carbon fiber folder with a lockback. They are a bit small, but for the price, you can get two! :D

A. G. also has a carbon fiber liner-lock, but it has a 3 1/4 inch blade. That might be pushing things a bit, but it's a beautiful knife, IMO.

If the 3" issue is negotiable,(as in not a legal issue) than the Gerber SL 3.25 is an excellent choice, I've picked them up on E-Bay for under $50.

click for Ebay Link for Gerber SL 3.25

Click here for one on sale now(I am in no way affiliated with the seller nor can I vouch for his integrity, as I don't know him.)These knives are discontinued, but they are an awsome knife for the money.

Carbon Fiber and ATS 34 steel make fore a great find under $50.

Also look around on some of the Internet stores, some are still avaiable at competeitve prices.

The Distintive Edge has them for $77, and they support the forum, and they're great people to deal with.

Hey DD,

I go by DD too... Not too familiar with A.G. Russel. Is it good stuff? I see them trying to sell a set of two knives (one G-10 and one Carbon Fiber) -- I wonder what the rationale is for that?

Keep the suggestions coming guys! I appreciate the good alternative so far.

I'm a big CF fan and my workweek EDC's rotate between a William Henry Kestrel (liner lock, ~2" blade, carbon fiber handles), WH Monarch (very cool button lock, 2.5" blade, cf) and the BM 770 (very, very cool Axis lock and ~2.75" blade). All three have 154CM blades and I'd describe the WH's as dressy not dainty ;) , but I see that as an asset. In any event, they are quite strong as is the BM, especially for its size. For business and/or formal dress, I carry one of these knives. Small enough to be inconspicuous and I love the look, feel and durability of CF. I was always worried about about scratching it, but they hold up very well banging around my pockets with keys, coins, etc. Additionally, they've all survived a few drops onto pavement and have nary a scratch.

I'd be interested in hearing more about the CF lockback folder offered by A.G. Russell. Anyone own one of these, and what are your opinions of this knife?

Thanks,

Matthew

Where is a good place to buy the BM 770 on-line? I was looking around at prices (which seem pretty close to $150), but everyone is out of stock...

The WH Kestral in CF can be had for around $150 as well.

I am so confused.

The little A.G. Russell lockbacks are very slim, and have no clips. No nail nicks either, but very easy to open by pinching the blade. I actually have been seriously considering getting the pair of the G-10, and carbon fiber. It doesn't necessarily have any rationale, other than having two versions of a cool knife. I like the fact that they have a nice hard heat treat, and are great splinter-picking pointy, as well as razor sharp.

Anything made by A.G. Russell Knives is top quality, and has a great guarantee. I'm lucky enough to have parents who live within 20min of his store, and I get down there 2-3 times a year. It's fun to handle the knives in person, as no other stores carry his knives.

DDGator, I say get the William Henry, if you can find it. They are just in a different class than Benchmade.

D2 (maybe I should start signing off that way:D)

Another vote for William Henry...I have 2 (T-10 and T-12) that I rotate in as my EDCs....excellent knives!

BM is a very well made knife as well, but agree that WH is in a different class...maybe not better, but different.

My knife is my companion, I like something a little less mainstream.

That sums it up perfectly. I have the small CF WH's and the BM770 and your description does them both justice and describes them perfectly.

FWIW, I ordered a William Henry Monarch in Carbon Fiber. It was a little higher than $150 -- it was $183 delivered, to be exact.

Reviews on the WH knives are hard to beat. I liked the Benchmade 770 too, and handled one locally. I didn't like the way the carbon fiber was ground down in spots so it looked unfinished. I may eventually still have one though... or maybe a WH T12.

My thanks to Patrick for talking me into a more expensive knife! ;)
