I was sitting here and happened to look over to a stand that is next to me and saw a pocket guide. The one I have is one on animal tracks. It is put out by Waterford press. So being me my mind started to wander and I thought I wonder what else they have. Boy was I surprised when I got to their website. They have tons of these pocket guides. they are laminated and have a bunch of great info. I looked at their site for 5 minutes or less and have 6 or 7 of more I want to get. I think it is worth a look at what they have for most of us. You can buy them on line but I am just not sure if you can get them direct. Here is the website, and I hope you find this useful. Doug

ADDED info: I went back to the website, their catalog in PDF is 16 pages long.

I was at (edit) REI last week and they had a whole rack of these pocket guides. They look very useful.

I keep one in my pack just incase but have zero experience in edibles.

Opens like a accordian map and is two-sided.

Headers are as follows:
Side 1- Nuts and Seeds/ Fruits and Berries

Side 2 - Leaves, Stems and Bark- Roots and Tubers - Desert and Tropical Plants - Seashore Plants- Poisonous Plants

PorcupineMtns66 that is one of the ones I was looking at on their website. That is one I want to pick up. I bought my animal tracks one at the local State Park here in New York State. Doug

Went to the website and bookmarked a couple of Vermont/New England specific guides.
I'm sure that, with further browsing, I'll find a couple more I'd like to buy and share with my kids.
Thanks for the heads up.

I found two different ones on knots at Waterford press. The first was was just called knots and the second one was outdoor knots. Doug

I've got one of the tree ID pocket guides, and it's handy enough. On the topic of knots, here's a neat bandana w/knots printed on it.

Very cool idea, and bright red to boot- where can we get them?

I found that one on scoutstuff.org. They also have bandannas w/animal tracks, and even (images of) scat!:D

I could use the plants one as well. That is one of the skills I want to get a lot better at. I vastly improved last year, but still not enough to feel comfortable without some sort of guide, and preferably someone to help identify.

I'd like to find a little pocket guide on knots.

I may have a spare copy of this one:

Check it out. I keep one in my wallet with my Brunton Emergency Thinger...
