Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for a basic pocket knife for everyday use. I've heard good things about the Spyderco Delica. Do you guys have any other suggestions or recommendations? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks for the help.

Welcome to BF. :)

Need more info. What are you looking for in a knife.

Locking blade or slip joint
One blade or multiple blades
Synthetic handle materials or natural
Stainless steel, or carbon

What kind of tasks do you want it for. General utility, cutting your PB&J's;)

You mentioned Spyderco. Great name brand, and fantastic knives. Can't go wrong with them IMO.

While I'll agree Spyderco's are good knives, they only work for some people. I have touble, and I'm sure others do too, opening the Spyderco (well, actually a Byrd), one handed and quickly.
Benchmade, Kershaw, Buck, Cold Steel, Columbia River all make good knives in this price range.

Thanks for the advice. This will be my first really nice knife purchase. I've only owned leathermans and swiss army knives in the past.

I want a single blade, locking knife and I'm not sure about the handle. I'll be using it for everyday tasks around the house. I've be reading a lot about the Benchmade brand and I know so people who love their knives. Can you think of an particular models that are good in the ~75 price range?

Thanks again for the help.

The delica is a great knife but i prefer the benchmade mini griptillian. Mainly because i like the lock better and the stud just looks better than the hole. The grip is also offered by cabellas in d2. You cant go wrong with either. Then again there are the kershaw offerings, the only one i have is the mini cyclone and it is excelent.

Besides Spyderco (my highest recommendation BTW) the brands mentioned above are all great recommendations.

Favorites:

Benchmade Griptillian
Spyderco Caly III
Buck 110 or 112 (not one handed)
Spyderco Mini Manix

Benchmade Mini Griptilian or full size Grip if it is not too big. All the other Benchmades are out of your price range or made overseas. All of the red class knives are made overseas. I would stick with the blue class they are all made in USA.

You need to check out the Kershaw offerings, and while you are at it come over to the Kershaw forum on the Manufactures page and you'll learn everything there is to learn about Kershaw knives, and get to meet a lot of folks who make Kershaw their choice!

I can only recommend what I use day to day, Kershaw Ken Onion Tactical Blur, if you shop the internet you can get for around 70 bux with shipping

Thanks for the input everyone. I think I've narrowed it down to 2 knives. The Spyderco Delica or the Benchmaid Griptillian.

Is this Benchmaid made in the US? I think I like the looks of the Benchmaid a bit more.

Between the two, I'd get the benchmade (we're making things, not cleaning them) because I'm a much bigger fan of the axis lock both for aesthetic reasons and the tech factor.

See the current thread about buying an EDC pocket knife for $15. Follow the suggestions there and spend the remaining $60 on a used gun (maybe a single barrel shotgun) and some ammo for it. :D

Got my new Spydie Cara Cara in the mail, for less than half the price of my other folders it's great in size and feels solid (the lockup I mean). I also got 2 nos. Recon 1 (axis lock wannabe), an AK47, a Kershaw JYD and others but I think my cheap Spydie would hold it's own.

Vote +1 on any Spydercos.

The Griptilian you linked to above is not the mini, but the full sized grip. That is a great knife but definitely a lot bigger than the Delica, especially in the pocket. The mini Griptilian would be the knife most comparable to the Delica (such as a 556). Both are great choices. If you can get to a good knife shop and handle both, that would be the best way to decide. Subjective considerations will be the deciding factors between these two equally great knives.
