Hi,

I'm looking for a gift for a friend.
As a knife nut, I tend to give away knives.

My friend develops leather goods, which he then has produced in India (cheap!) and Italy (expensive!).

I was thinking a small gentlemen's knife, so he can travel with it and open it in a professional environment without causing a blind panic.

As I said, he doesn't actually make the articles himself, but he will probably take samples apart and things like that.

I have no idea what kind of bladeshape is right for him and thought I'd ask here.

How about a Harness Jack? This was the traditional leather workers pocket knife in the past. It is an ordinary slip joint with a blade and an awl/leather punch.
