Pocket knife for the Borneo jungle?

Going to a survival / bushcraft course in the jungles of Borneo in April.
A parang as well as a utility knife will be provided at the course, but I'd also like to carry a pocket knife.
What pocket knife would you guys recommend for my little trip?
Low maintenance and pocketability (is that a word?) are two of things I'd like to see in it.

Not sure about your budget, but if you want a simple clasp knife (as opposed to a knife with tools); cheap & cheerful, rugged, very slim, has bail, locks and stainless: Mercator k55k.

If you want something with tools, I would look at Swiss Army Knives, big selection to choose from.

Thanks, John!

The mighty SAK is definitely an option.
Hadn't thought about the Mercator. I've got the carbon steel version, and that wouldn't go as low maintenance in the jungle, but the stainless version... hmmmm, food for thoughts

Carry a SAK farmer. put a colored cord on it and tie it to your belt and the knife itself. It is a great folder.
have fun and I hope you get plenty of pics to show us after you get back.

the Mercator and SAK are good suggestions. Maybe the Pocket Bushman or RAT1... something inexpensive but durable and made from a practical field steel.

Edited to add Kabar's Dozier and Warthog. Both are the best users on the market for the money, and I really appreciate the precision of a clipped point for jungle tasks.

A Victorinox One-Hand Trekker is a good all around choice. It's my EDC and have two more in my emergency car kits (one in each car). Not overly large, and has enough tools to get most jobs done. Non-serrated is best unless you cut a bunch of rope and/or bread.

Thanks for all the good advoce, guys.
I think I'll go for a SAK, either a Soldier or a Farmer.
Tying a colourful string to it is gpd advice, I'll do that.

Hard to beat either choice. Of the 2, I would choose the Farmer for the saw.

I agree with the Farmer Vote, If I was going to go for a single blade in stainless, Like Payette said, the Cold Steel Pocket bushman is a tough knife.
I actually just traded into a new SAK, I don't know the model, (EDIT: looks like I have a Champion! very cool!http://www.sakwiki.com/show_image.php?id=786&scalesize=o)
but man, its got every tool I would want, and none of the ones I never use...its like my Grail SAK. It has the 2 blades, small and large, Saw, File, Fish Scaler, Scissors, philips head, Magnifying glass, can opener and bottle opener, on the back, a small flat head, reamer and cork screw. Very awesome find for me...I love it.
Its a tad bit wider than the Farmer (which was my EDC for years) and it has the plastic scales...but man, its a cool tool IMO.

my vote is for the sak Forrester.. Out standing folding knife with a saw and a large stout locking blade.

Another vote for the Vic One Hand Trekker.
Seems guys that like them all own several.
I carry on every day as well.

I will ditto the SAK advice but I would go with a locking blade. I just prefer that extra bit of safety to make sure I don't fold up my blade before I am ready. Had it happen when I was a kid and I never forgot it.

This is a big reason I like the OHT, one hand opening blade that locks in place.

i'd say the rat one or spyderco tenacious, fast deployment for thoose situations you don't have time to find the nailnick, sure the vic knives are nice i edc a alox soldier every day but it doesnt fill up the hand as much as i'd like .. but hey that's just me

If they are providing the chopper AND utility knife there is no need for a regular folder, I will bet the supplied utility knife will make it redundant.

As mentioned a SAK will round out your tools, scissors, saw and awl will probably be the most used

You may want to consider a multi-tool over a SAK, pliers will come in very handy

I like my leatherman. Definitely has all the functionality you need as a last resort with locking blades. :)

I have a Farmer but couldn't warm up to a blade that doesn't lock...hence the OHT.
