I was only aware of Buck in the 70's and 80's and then came the 90's where I as introduced to brand names
such as Cold Steel, Spyderco and Benchmade. I believe I saw the first Cold Steel Tanto in the late 80's
(could be wrong though) but I was never aware of Spyderco and Benchmade. My first pocket knife with a clip
that I EDC'd religiously was a Cold Steel Medium Voyager Tanto SE. I purchased it in the early 90's and still have it.

1. In what year or order did these 3 companies start?
2. Which company or who had the most brilliant idea of attaching a pocket clip to a folder? I can't imagine not having one.

Spyderco and Benchmade have been around longer than you might think... ;)
Initially, Spyderco was a pioneer in the field of one-handed openers and clip-on pocket knives, while Benchmade got its start largely in the balisong realm.
