Looking for a good pocket knife for EDC. I have a tactical folder and now I wan't something that is well made, but looks good as well. I am not a big fan of stag. Around $50 or less is where I am at for now. Links/pics are appreciated. Thanks!

how many and what type of blades are you thinking of. do you have a size requirement? case makes some very nice sythetic and bone scaled knives in CV steel... do you have a steel preference?

I don't care how many blades there are. Although I shouldn't need a more than 1 or 2. Size is also not a big deal, but I don't want something heavy. As far as steal goes, I am still learning. I just need something that will hold an edge and will handle most everyday cutting tasks. I will normaly have my bag with me that will have a fixed blade.

how about a nice case amber jack... 3 5/8" with CV steel and easy in the pocket and on the eyes.... less than $40.

 Aawwwkkkk!!! I can't believe it. That is beyond explanation.

Anyway, after I get over my amazement, snappyg's recommendation is top notch. I second it wholeheartedly.

Now, others will come along with other suggestions - all good. The problem with traditional slippies is that there is such a variety of patterns and handle and steel variations, it is easy to become overwhelmed when trying to pick what you want. I'd say try to find a knife store or Case dealer that you can go and look at sizes and put your hands on some knives. You will find something that will strike your fancy and if you stay with a good brand, you'll be pleased. The slope that you stand on starts gently enough but steepens in a hurry, so be careful!! :)

I would opt for an older model Schrade USA model of your choice. Most models can be found within your price range.

Specifically, an 881 or 881y. Open stock models. Good users are on that auction site left and right and nearly new ones can be found.

I got these for cheap. Actually, I got all three for less than your budget. One was 20 bucks shipped IIRC. The ones with the tubes were a little more but well under 50 dollars.

Solid knives, great walk and talk, fit and finish is "old school" good.....carbon blades take and hold a champ of an edge.

Might want to check on the Old Timer 8ot as it is the same size. You can find them pretty easy too.

I'll second what lwt210 said. I have found some great prices on USA Schrades on the auction site, that may be a good jumping off point for you.

Also, check out the exchange, I got my first Case Soddie there for around $20.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I would also like to point out I AM a big fan of damascus steel. I don't know if there are any of these knives with damascus, or if it will still be in my price range.

decent damascus steel will run in the hundreds on many models. much commercial damascus wo'nt perform better than 440a. incidentially damascus will not compete edge wise with a good factory blade. the great damascus is always a custom proposition from fowler, burke, & bagwell.

Damascus will most likely be a little more than double your stated budget. Check out Case for some beautiful raindrop damascus blades...... I am not positive but I think Bear and Sons makes damascus models as well although they will most likely fall well below Case for quality. I hope this helps.

Hi,

Case CV is great stuff in what ever pattern you might like. I very often carry a Case Canoe in CV.

But I also carry a Boker Barlow in C75 carbon.

Both knives are 3 5/8" closed and I consider them to be medium sized.

Part of my EDC lately has been a Case Small Texas Jack CV in Amber Bone. Great knife! Very stout smaller blade.
