I've been working in a lumber yard all summer and when I go to work, I always have at least my SAK on me. More often than not, there's a mini grip and maybe more. I anticipate being at the lumber yard through the school year and even got a PM release to allow me to work more hours. Weekends are not a problem for me since I don't have to go to school, just straight to work. When school starts back up again, this is going to be a problem for me as they are not exactly the most knife friendly place around and I will still need at least the SAK most days for work. I can't keep it in my car since there have been students in recent years who did that and got in the same amount of deep $**T as if they had it on their person.

I am wondering if you guys have any real world advice for me, which would be greatly appreciated. If I absolutely need to, I can get something new assuming it's not overly expensive but I have the regular "sheeple friendly" gear like a SAK, Gerber multitool and small locking knives such as a mini grip

ADDITION: I do not plan on outright breaking any rules and whatever decision I decide on won't be put "into action" until after I see if I can work something out with the school. Just felt like I had to add that

I'd talk to your boss and see if there's a safe spot you can keep an inexpensive knife at work.

Yup. My thought exactly. If you have a locking locker at work I'd leave it there. if your boss is amenable to leaving it with him, that's another good option.

High school or college/university?
What country/state/province?

i mean, i carried knife every day of HS my senior year and never had a problem. then again, i never got caught. probably not the best example :D

Yeah id advise against that a friend of mine got arrested and almost expelled from my HS because he forgot that he had his knife in the pants that he wore to scouts the night before, that he then wore to school. That was 7 years ago and I think that schools haven't relaxed any in the last few years.

I would call my senator! Not to long ago people carried their bird dog and shot gun to school!

Mary took a lamb to school but it was against the rule and that in 1830 USA :-o
What did kids eat back then during lunch break? Tofu?

that was lat year for me, and i got lucky. i was off the main campus at our AG barn most of the day which made it easier to get away with. plus our assisstant priciple was a little lax on the whole knife thing out there. he would come by occasionly to check on things and would see a kid pull out a knife to cut something and just tell them to make sure he didnt see it again. in fact, we even skinned a bobcat and a couple coyets in class. now if had been caught on the main campus, that would have been a differnt story :D

Talk to you boss at work about locking it up there. I work at a Texas Public School and they sent a Top 20% student to 30 days of alternative school for accidentally bringing a Kershaw Half ton to school after being on a weekend camping trip since she used the same backpack.

Why not just throw in you glove box, center console, or trunk..
Depending on the state and school policy, schools can have your vehicle searched by police if it's parked on campus and they get a report of a potential threat. I know my high-school did.

I agree with those who have said to ask your boss if there is a place you can store a knife at work. It would also demonstrate to him that you are trying to follow the rules of your school, which speaks well of your character.

Find out what your state laws and school regulations are, and follow them. If you need a knife for your part-time job, your employer should be able to provide something suitable.

It is my understanding that the high schools in my area have a zero weapons policy for students and staff. Any and all knives on your person, or in your belongings (backpack, locker, etc.) are considered weapons, not tools. They don't care why you have a knife, what you are going to use it for, that you brought it on campus by accident, or anything else. If you have a knife on school grounds you are wrong.

If your school has policies like these, are you sure that you want to take a chance?

I wonder what my local schools do about knives in the school kitchen, cutting tools in wood and metal shops, and tools used by contractors and construction workers while on campus?
