Here are scans of a couple minimal kits I dug out of the spares bag this evening. On a couple of the scans to fill up space I threw in an orange match safe, orange flat whistle, compass/thermometer, and blue Bic lighter with a zip-tie to keep the thumb tab from being depressed in storage.

Kit #1:
- Blue Latok Fader carabiner, retired from my climbing days
- Inova X5 white multi-LED light (old model) with silver body
- CMG Infinity single-LED 1-AA battery light
- blue-purple Traser Glowring tritium glo-tube
- Swedish military size Firesteel with striker, painted tan with nail polish, mottled effect is due to thinner/thicker coatings of polish on different parts of the ferrocium rod
- Benchmade BM555 black Mini-Griptilian in 440c with Axis lock
- about 10 feet of black 550 paracord

Kit #2:
- Inova X5MT white multi-LED light (new model) with silver body in black nylon holster
- Swedish military size Firesteel with striker and green & tan nail polish on the ferrocium rod
- AG Russell Bird & Trout Knife fixed-blade AUS8 stainless and its plastic push-button sheath
- Inova mini-LED light with white LED
- Leatherman Squirt P4 mini-plier with gray handle scales

Great pics RokJok. I really enjoy it when people make and post scans of their knives and kits.

Concerning the Orange match case: I have one of these in army green (supposedly 'army issue') with a flint-type bar on the bottom. Yours seems to have the same thing - have you ever been able to get a spark out of this thing? I've scraped it with both high and low carbon blades but haven't been able to get anything. Is it indeed a flint strike of some sort? What is it there for if it isn't?

Barber, I have seen similar matchcases with a sandpaper type striking surface on them. Maybe that bar is merely for striking matches from. If you don't fill the case with "strike anywhere" type matches then you'd need that surface. Try working a regular match off of it a nd see if it works.

It's a low quality ferro-cerrium rod... it's for in case you run out of matches... it should throw some sort of spark if you scrape it correctly... and, you can't strike a normal match on it...

Magnesium corrodes like mad... 60's Mag racing wheels left in fields become green hunks of mossy looking blobs!

I love these threads!!!

Leatherman Squirt P4 - YES!!! The BEST Mini-Multi-Tool out there. Makes a great backup for my SwissTool X and there are so many situations where if you need pliers, you new TWO PAIRS of pliers!

Benchmade Mini-Griptilian - YES!!! I love my (actually my wife's) 551, I plan to get a 556 for myself. These knives are GREAT!!!

AG Russell Bird and Trout - YES!!! I have had one in D2 for a while now. I haven't actually DONE anything much with it yet, but it is a great knife, and I can really see it being a GREAT small EDC fixed blade!

I'm in the midst of re-working my EDC Gear, but I look forward to photographing and cataloging everything once I'm satisfied (...on the 12th of NEVER...), or at least mostly satisfied.
