Just curious, any pool players here? Pool was always one of my passions when I was in my 20's. I still play as I have a regulation pool table in my basement. When I was younger I used to play in tournaments. Those days they played straight pool not 9 ball as they play today. My highest run was 45 balls in straight pool. I have a few Balabuska pool cues and use one of them all the time. I like a heavy stick about 21 oz. I find I can play better position with the heavier sticks.

Yep, every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday night !

You want some real good pool cues, you should try beadsandbilliards.com. I've ordered two cues from there already and they play awesome. High price cue sticks that are made very well, the two I've got are made out of plastic and not wood, though. You got a table at home, so your pretty lucky in that sense. There's a beer joint around here that has old fashion pool tables, not the coin operated ones. You just give them your ID and a dollar, and they give you the balls and a rack and you can play as long as you want  .

Andrew, there are no better pool cues made than Balabuska's. Check it out.

Yeah, I play every now and then. Im not very good at it, but thats ok because I always have fun when I play.

I was wondering if anyone here has ever heard of Mr. Billiards. I have a cue from that company which belonged to my Uncle before he passed. I dont have a model name or anything all it says is 18 ounces on the handle. Beyond that no idea. Anyway I was just wondering if that company was any good.

Heh... I thought this thread was going to be ABOUT pocket pool! :D

I've got a comeback to the old "you playing pocket pool?" question you get when you're just standing there minding your own business.

Ask 'em if they want winners!

I've always loved pool. Used to play betwen classes in college and at the local bar after bowling. Made the 8 on the break a couple times (a win according to the house rules there). Ran the table once in 8 ball. Other guys broke and I stepped up and ran 'em all and pocketed the 8. The two guys we we're playing had both been in jail for fighting. My partner was happy and scared at the same time! they we're both cool with it though. (insert *whew* smilie here!)

I'd love to play again. Between my son taking up wrestling on M & W, I've got Martial Arts on T & T. Maybe if I took up drinking again! :D

I used to shoot alot, never anything organized.
And NEVER ran 45!
I think my best was around a rack and a half.
My first cue was 21, and now I have a 20.
I should really scrape the dust off of it and hit the poolroom :D
Straight pool rules, and score should be kept with the beads on wire suspended from the ceiling :D

I've had several periods in my life when I played lots of pool. Right now, my cues are on the wall and the table is covered, but I suspect I'll recatch the fever for the game sooner or later.

Yup:D Play in two leagues/Monday & Wed. nites - one is Bar Box/BCA ('Vegas is getting close:D ), the other is an in-house on 4 1/2 x 9's. This is 8 ball. Also spare in a co-worker's team when one of their players cannot attend my ranking(B1 - intermediate) doesn't allow for two of us with the same ranking to play at the same time. Best in straight pool has only been about 23:mad: It might have been the beer:) This will be my 5th year in a row going to the National in 'Vegas. Current cue is a Viking (19.5 oz/13mm Triangle tip with the the pro taper extended an extra couple of inches - just sold my Joss to help pay for this one), break cue is a Bunjee jump/break and jump cue is a Bunjee. Been doing the league thing for about 10 years - still having fun with it.

When I was a waitress in a bar I played ALOT. Also played darts in the league. Then I got old and don't go to bars anymore. :(

Anytime you can run over a rack in straight pool you are doing good. To me straight pool is the best game and requires the most talent. It is a game of position and that what pool is all about, controlling the cue ball. Once you can put the cue ball where you want to you can master the game.

I played too much in college also, 8 & 9 ball leagues for 2-3 years. I've run a 9 ball table a time or two but that's about it. I've got an older Meucci cue that I really like, two shafts, one regular and one snooker (real small diameter, lot's of english). After looking a bit, it is pre power-piston, pre red/black dot and all the new fangled stuff.

I've shot with Mcdermott, Viking, Joss, Schon, Cue-tex, and others and like my plain ole' Meucci best. I'd like to try a Balabushka replica someday, but I doubt I will ever see or handle an original.;)

I wish I had an original Balabuska stick. They sell at auction for tens of thousands of dollars. The ones I have still cost me close to a thousand dollars a piece. Years ago there was a guy named Frank Paris who's pool cues sell for a ton of money also.

I got hooked on pool this summer. I have leaque matches Tuesdays and Thursdays (on 9 ft tables), and I'm also at the bars most weekends. I shoot with a lucasi with a predator z shaft on it. I was improving a lot last semester cuz I shot multiple hours every day. I'm working this semester instead of classes, so I have less time to shoot and I've noticed a slip in my game. My best run ever was 17 in straight pool, but 6-8 is a more usual good run for me.
