Right now my go-to sharpener is the Sharpmaker. Sure it lacks the gadgetry of many of the guided systems out there but it just works. And works well. That said I’m looking for something pocket sized to travel with. Currently just have a dmt folding home which will work but I’m sure I will mess up my bevel angles with that. Any suggestions for a travel friendly solution that matches the SM angles? I really like the options from Work Sharp but for some reason they want to be about 5 degrees out of line...

How about the DMT Aligner Sharpening Kit. Should be relatively close...going from memory.

You can also use the Magna-Guide with the Diafolds with the same system.

I have a mini 325 grit dmt card and a small venev stone in the truck for.whenever I need it.

I was under the impression that the OP was looking for a guided solution?

If not, I'd just throw a couple small diamond hones or credit cards in the console and call it good. (At least that's been my solution...plus a Gerber Sportsman steel.)

The Diafold is a great solution you already own.

DMT Dia-Sharp will work just fine. A little care to follow your established bevel and you should have no problem.

Hi,
what bevels you got?
If they're wide (1mm,2mm), it should be relatively simple to balance by feel on the bevel, match the exact angle
If they're barely visible ( less than 1/3mm), well, how much can you mess them up freehand?

Or, what you're really asking is for an angle guide for that dmt folding hole
(sharpmaker style angle guide)

I have several drawers full of portable sharpeners and that red lansky ceramic is one of the best. Costs about $5 and has 20 degree slots for large and small knives. Worksharp just came out with some similar models, but I haven't tried them yet
20° slots = 40° inclusive angle. Good for an axe, but not a knife ... at least not if you want the knife to slice worth a daRn, anyway.

Lansky turnbox. If you're handy (and maybe have a jig) you can even drill holes for 15* since it only comes with 20 and 25 degrees. the 20 works for a microbevel though!

The OP was specifically looking for something that would match the sharpmaker for a quick touch up in the field.

the lansky pocket crock stick is not meant to sharpen. It’s for a quick honing of a knife that has lost its keenness.

the typical process on a sharpmaker is to thin the bevels to 15dps and then add a 20dps microbevel. If you have a knife setup with this system, the lansky becomes a quick and easy way to hone the knife and help re-establish the microbevel back to sharper than it was before
