Pocket sharpener

Well, that all depends on what kind of sharpener you mean by "pocket sharpener."

DMT has a "credit card" sharpener I carry in my wallet. Works great for touch-ups.

I am looking for something for touching up a blade after a good chopping session but can also hone a blade of needed

I really like Fallkniven's DC4 and DC3 sharpeners.

I don't have one of these yet, but they do look like an attractive combination that you won't find elsewhere. A fine diamond side (for some more serious honing), and ceramic on the other side for lighter touch-ups. That sounds to me like a very versatile pocket sharpener.

Otherwise, I'd think something like one of the DMT 2-sided products would be good, with Coarse/XC on one side, and Fine/EF on the other.

Might even toss in a small piece of leather, with or without compound, and cut to the same size as your stone. Lay it on the stone to use as a strop to take care of whatever extra finishing you might need.

I am liking the falkniven sharpener and I wonder If you could use the leather case to strop instead of having to cut one like OWedges says

I'm guessing you could, in a pinch. I don't know what the case for these looks like. If the leather is fairly heavy/stiff, and it's shape is molded to the stone, getting smooth, consistent contact might be more challenging. Stropping is much easier on a surface that's uniformly flat. If the leather case is relatively soft & flexible, that might make it easier to press it flat against the stone while stropping. Other factors, like stitching along the edges of the case, or if the leather is coated/treated/waxed, might influence how well it works for this too. If you can make it work, go for it.

Thanks edges, if you want I can post a link to a YouTube review of the sharpener

If you want to post that, go for it. I can't quite get as much out of videos on the 'net anymore, due to my computer having a slightly-too-close encounter with a thunderstorm a few years ago. A nearby lightning bolt managed to kill the audio on my PC . Never got it back. Everything else still works, thankfully. But, as it now stands, any videos I watch are are all 'silent movies'. With some videos, that's probably a good thing though... :p

Thanks...

In my opinion, a pocket sharpener does not need to be a perfect do-it-all device. It only needs to put a serviceable edge on your knife out in the field until you can get it home to your more "advanced" equipment.

go double sided for sure, gives you more options

dmt diafold C/F or XF/XXF - easy with the foldable design, gives a long handle
spyderco doublestuff (M/F) - a littlebit long, but strong
fallkniven dc-4 - diamond and ceramic, little wider than the others and shorter
