Pocket sheath for Izula?

As I wait impatiently for my new Izula, I've been thinking about how I want to carry it. I think pocket carry probably suits me the best which led me to another question.

Are there knife sheaths that are specifically designed for pocket carry? I'm mostly thinking of features that allow me to pull the knife from my pocket while the sheath stays put. It would also be nice if it had something that prevented me stabbing myself in the leg when I go to put the knife back. It should also be made such that it doesn't flop around even in the pockets of loose fitting slacks or Dockers type pants.

I'm not thinking tactical, although the idea is based on a pocket holster that I have for one of my small .38s. It does a very good job of keeping the gun in place, making it easy to draw, and easy to reholster as well.

I don't really think of a knife as a self-defense tool, I just want to make it easy to use one handed when needed.

Thanks for any info.

i think with a little playing around.. you could definatly built a "dog bone" that would fill in the pocket like most pocket holsters fit.... dip it in vynil tool dip for a little extra grab and screw it to the sheath.... add a length up that covers the profile of the handle with a curve around the edge to help find it and not cut open your pocket.... of course it might feel a whole lot more comfy if its a peice of leather cut to fit..... that you screw the sheath onto....

its doable ... if nothing else i think theres a few fellow RPs bending kydex .... or i guess you could look up some custom sheath makers for a leather one......

To be honest, I don't find the Izula to be specifically designed for pocket carry. It can easily slip into a front pocket, while in its sheath, but it does move around a little bit. If that bothers you, you can wrap some paracord around the sheath and then hook it to a carabiner attached to a belt loop or belt.

To easily but the blade back in the sheath is a little more difficult. I haven't been able to do that while I let it ride in my pocket. This kind of takes away from its EDC value. I think if you wrap the sheath in paracord and then work your belt through a loop in the paracord then you'll have more control of the sheath and greater ease of putting back the Izula with just one hand.

There are more RAT owners out there who have experimented with this stuff and can offer you their own opinion. There was a similar thread around here a little while ago...

I saw those, but they didn't realy seem to fit the what I'm after. It looks like to use the knife, you would have to take the whole thing out of your pocket and then remove the knife from the sheath. Is this correct?

Did you like yours? If I don't find anything else that gives me what I'm after, I might consider one.
Thanks for the suggestion.

I carry my HEST front pocket when I'm not on the trails in its factory kydex sheath, I cna clip it right in and out inside the pocket.

you are correct it can be a hassle if you front pocket or back pocket carry w/ this sheath. but it works best (for me) in cargo pockets.you can reach into cargo grasp blade and push away sheath and return the same matter for me anyways, but it may move around in hiking ...nature of the beast...
Talk to JRE sheaths and have a leather sheath made with belt clip made to it.to clip into front or back pocket like a folder with clip, sheath stays put and Izula can be drawn & inserted w/o issues of sheath movement

A pocket sheath would be a great starter project if you are interested in learning to do any leatherwork. It would only take maybe $10-12 to buy all the tools and materials you needed to build it. You could make an awl, or use a drill w/ small bit to do the holes for stitching, and buy the leather, needles, and waxed thread. You could probably get those last three things for like $6-8. Make the sheath rough side out so it grabs your pocket better.

i put a clip on the original sheath. the handle sticks out of my pocket if i'm wearing jeans, but with cargo pants or slacks, it stays pretty well hidden.

+1 on this for me. I use the original sheath and stick it in my back pocket. I haven't had any major problems. It did take me a little bit of getting used to resheathing it. Put a hole in one of my pockets. Better my pocket than my butt!

I like the looks of the KSF sheaths for pocket carry and the ability to combine it with my light is a bonus.

Do the KSF sheaths work well if you have the handle wrapped? Since the sheath comes up over a significant part of the handle, seems like it could be a problem.
