Hello all! Apologies if this is not the right place to post this.

I have a pocket sheath I have mocked up for a Russel Green River patch knife I modified and handled. My prior pocket sheath for it left something to be desired, so I am trying to do this one right. The former one is a taco style sheath, which I think I cut too small.

Per the mock up below, I am making the new sheath a double sided one with a wrap around welt. The welt will be 10mm wide of about 7/8 oz leather (~3mm thick). The knife is 12mm thick at the handle and about 3mm thick at the blade. That would mean with a single welt there would be about 3 layers of 3mm thick leather.

My main question is, if using the same 7/8 oz leather for the sheath body and for the welt, do you think that would be enough leather for the knife to fit snugly in the sheath? Or do you think a secondary welt starting near the handle (like the mock up shows) would be needed?

I will be reusing the ulticlip set shown below as the pocket clip for the sheath, it was salvage from the old sheath.

Any questions, answers, constructive criticism would be highly appreciated!

Did you already make the sheath? :D

I don't think three layers welt is necessary but it depends how tight you want it to be.

I can send you pic later of pancake sheath I've made for knife with one layer welt. If you want less layers like me it's just going to need some time to stretch but the friction is going to be reassuring.

Yup I did. It came out ok I think.

The retention now that it is wet molded is a little looser than I would like. If I had to do it over again I wouldn’t put the secondary welt in, but I got impatient and wanted to carry my knife ASAP.

I might put a second row of stitching through the welt up top to snug it down a bit. The welt is just thick enough to do that. Thoughts?

Also I would love to see pics of your sheath!
